TRAFFIC WARNING: Motorists who use Streets Run Road may have noticed these signs popping up near a few railroad crossings. According to the railroad, beginning November 1, 2021, they are increasing the speed limit for their trains from 15 MPH to 25 MPH. While this may seem insignificant, it does represent a noticeable speed increase. This is a perfect time to remind all drivers that flashing red lights at the crossing means you must stop until the lights are no longer ...flashing. If you have younger drivers at home, please emphasize this law. Being impatient often leads to tragic outcomes. We will be conducting additional patrols along all train crossings in anticipation of this speed increase. Officers will be stopping any observed violation of red flashing train crossing signals. Citations may be issued. We thank you for your cooperation.

Department News: A brother law enforcement officer in the south hills was recently diagnosed with cancer and is undergoing treatment. Fundraising efforts are underway to support him and his family during this fight. Officers from our department are permitted to "violate" our grooming policy for the months of November and December. Each officer has to pay a "fine" for this violation. All of the money collected is being send to Jerrod's fundraising efforts. Attached are... some of the pictures of our officers' progress so far. Here is a link to this fundraising site: https://www.facebook.com/JoinJerrodsFight

TRAFFIC SAFETY: Between November 16th and 29th, police departments throughout the state will be participating in the "Buckle-Up, PA" and the "Click It or Ticket" campaigns in an effort to make the roads safer and gain compliance with seatbelt usage for both drivers and passengers. Seatbelt use is one of the easiest choices one can make for a safe commute. During this time period, travel increases due to the Thanksgiving holiday and we want everyone to remain safe and enjoy time with family and friends. The Baldwin Borough Police Department will be joined by police departments from Clairton, Duquesne, Elizabeth Township, Jefferson Hills, Pleasant Hills, Swissvale, West Mifflin, and Whitehall during this enforcement program. Please make safe choices and Buckle-Up, PA.....

ROAD CLOSURE UPDATE: Here is the latest update we have received on the Streets Run Road closure: The contractor is anticipating that the work will be finished on or about Labor Day. The original area of work is nearly finished (near Option Automotive). While completing this work, the contractor is also fixing a lane collapse closer to Chapons. The heavy rains are causing some delays at that repair. We have seen chatter on other community Facebook pages that no work has... begun. This is inaccurate. While we understand this closure is inconvenient to many people, completing this second section of lane collapse repair will prevent a future closure of the entire roadway. Prospect Road: We received information today that the contractor has been given the OK to begin this reconstruction work. This will fix the large slide that has been controlled by an alternating/ temporary traffic light for 1.5 years. Prospect Road will be completely closed from Streets Run Road to the top, near Elderslee. This will begin on SEPTEMBER 14, 2020 and end on or about NOVEMBER 2, 2020. Finally, we are receiving regular weather updates from Allegheny County Emergency Services. We are still expecting significant rainfall totals through this weekend. There is a weather system passing through this afternoon, and the remnants of Hurricane Laura are expected to pass south of us from tonight through early Sunday morning. We will work to update this page with closures as best we can, while still handling calls for service. Please use extra caution this weekend and be on the lookout for flooded roads and water ponding. If you regularly follow our page, you should be familiar with our "frequent flyers" when it comes to flooded roadways. Use caution. Be safe. Thank you.
