Barber's Chemicals 11.02.2021

It is with great sadness that we at Barber's Chemicals, Inc. share the passing of our friend and family member, Delmont Zahniser. With 44 years with us before his retirement, he was very much the face of our company. Many of you remember him and cared for him. We ask that you would send your prayers to God for his family as this terrible event will weigh heavy on them.

Trichlorisocyanuric tablets are in short supply. Now is the time to consider moving to Sodium Hypochlorite. It was less expensive to use before demand started to drive the Trichlor prices higher, but now you have even greater savings with Trichlor's limited availability. Install an easy-to-maintain solution injection pump, plug it into your controller, shut off the bypass to your Trichlor feeder, and you are ready to go. For those who are using floaters to apply their Trichlor in residential pools, ask us about the better way to introduce chlorine into your swimming pool!

"Firefighters should not fight an ammonium nitrate fire and everyone, including firefighters, should be evacuated to a safe distance if they observe any of the following: A fire involving ammonium nitrate is judged to be out of control; The fire is engulfing the ammonium nitrate; or Brown/orange smoke is detected, indicating the presence of nitrogen dioxide (which is toxic); or A rapid increase in the amount/intensity of smoke or fire in the area of ammonium nitrate storage."... "If subjected to strong shocks or heated under confinement causing a pressure buildup, may undergo detonation." "Ammonium nitrate by itself does not burn, but in contact with other combustible materials, it increases the fire hazard. It can support and intensify a fire even in the absence of air. Fires involving ammonium nitrate can release toxic nitrogen oxides and ammonia. A fire involving ammonium nitrate in an enclosed space could lead to an explosion. Closed containers may rupture violently when heated." All three quotes are from: https://pubchem.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/compound/Ammonium-nitrate It looks like it was a storehouse of fertilizer near a fireworks warehouse. The videos of the explosion in Beirut are extraordinary.
