Starting as a private and retiring as a brigadier general, Charles Elwood Yeager (or Chuck as the world knew him) flew a P-51 in WWII and commanded air wings in the Vietnam War. But he is best known for being the first human to break the sound barrier in level flight in a Bell X-1 in 1947. Chuck Yeager died on December 7, 2020 at the age of 97. He is survived by his wife and 4 children. Fly high brave sir. We salute you.

Gene A. Gundrum, age 83 of Falls Creek, PA died Sunday, December 6, 2020 at Penn Highlands DuBois Hospital. Born on July 21, 1937 in Cornwall, PA, he was the son of the late Harry and Mabel (Brenner) Gundrum, Sr. On August 4, 1972 he married Patricia (Yancey) Gundrum. She survives.... He was a veteran of the United States Air Force Reserves. Gene retired as the Chief of Police from the Falls Creek Borough after 17 years of service. After retirement he worked at the DuBois Regional Medical Center Security Department for 23 years. He was a member of St. Bernard’s Roman Catholic Church, Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 965 in Falls Creek, PA and the Fraternal Order of Police. Gene is also survived by his children; (Cathy Valant & her husband Larry of Portage, IN, Edward Mooney & his wife Angie of Marietta, GA, Christopher Mooney of Ford City, PA, Amy Straub & her husband Bob of Falls Creek, PA, and Michael Mooney of Pittsburgh, PA) 7 grandchildren; (Linsey Roy & her husband Austin, Jordan Straub & his wife Kari, Bailey & Griffin Mooney, Christina Farrand, Crystal Sandrey & Brittney Valant) and 8 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by 1 brother (Harry Gundrum, Jr.) and 1 sister (Ellen Hass). Due to our current circumstances there will be no public visitation and a private service will be held from the Baronick Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc. with Father Edward Walk officiating. Burial will be in St. Tobias Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Highlandview Healthcare, 90 Main Street, Brockway, PA 15824 in honor of their excellent care & service.
