Now that Bucks County Community College is back to our campuses, there is a renewed energy and spirit. With it, the college has new leadership in Dr. Felicia Ganther. She's very pro-community (just like historic preservation!) and we are excited for the future! Check out her words of wisdom for students in the post-CVOID era: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a82QppjWTLE
Planning to tackle some major rehabilitation work on your historic building, but not sure where to start? This Forum Webinar on August 17 will give an overview of the process of architectural design and construction practiced by architects, engineers, contractors, and preservationists, which provides the framework for most rehabilitation projects. Speakers include representatives from Partners for Sacred Places and grantees from the National Fund for Sacred Places. The Forum Webinars from @savingplaces are currently free, and open to the public. RSVP today for the Tuesday, August 17 free webinar at 3:00 pm ET. #PreservationForum #SavingPlaces https://forum.savingplaces.org/forum-webinar
What does the future look like for preservation? Part of that future relies on teaching the next generation of tradespeople! What’s your favorite example of this kind of adaptive reuse?
How are your historical museums adapting? Are they?
It's that time of year again... Browse through, research, and take action on saving the 11 Most Endangered Places on the National Trust for Historic Preservation's list! Listed (and threatened!) in our region this year are Rassawek, the Monacan nation's 17th century capitol in Columbia, Virginia, and the National Negro Opera Company House in Pittsburgh, PA.
A preservation success story in Northeast Philly! (And if you go to the bottom of the article there is also a story about a 17th century log cabin in South Jersey.) https://6abc.com/6380498/
Philadelphia’s history won’t be served unless its neglected Black cultural sites are properly recognized and supported.... You need money and power to erect statues made of bronze and stone. Although Blacks have been a presence in Philadelphia for 400 years, monuments to their achievements and suffering tend to take other forms. There are dozens of them around the city if you know where to look. Let’s bring this outside of Philly, too. What overlooked historic sites are in your community? (Don’t know of any? No time like the present to think about what research may you need to doand who might you need to speak with and listen toto find them.)
Check out this free webinar from our neighbors to the south at Virginia Humanities. What lessons can we bring to preservation closer to home?
Extra time on your hands? Looking for something engaging and fun to do this summer? Join us for Cultural Landscapes: Route 66 & Commercial Archaeology" and explore the value and significance of America’s historic places. Inspired by the National Trust for Historic Preservation campaign, we will look at the context of women’s history in relation to highway history in America, the historic context and impact of the Green Books on African American lives, how we preserve this h...eritage through legislation and law, and more! Michael Hirsch will be our instructor. He is an experienced urban planner and design architect with significant experience in the resort and tourism market. He is President of the board of the Society for Commercial Archeology. In this role, he develops and implements fundraising/membership strategies for an all-volunteer 400 member national organization that works to recognize, document, build awareness of, and preserve America’s unique 20th century commercial built environment. We hope you can join us!

Happy 50th anniversary of Earth Day! The "greenest" building is the one already built, right? Rehabilitating old places provides jobs, maintains a sense of character in our towns, and prevents needless waste of materials that fills our landfills and pollutes the air. One of the many reasons historic preservation is critical to smart growth and healthy development. Check out these additional considerations from the U.S. Department of Environmental Protection. https://www.epa.gov//smart-growth-and-preservation-existin

Telling the story of free people of color in Bucks County is critically important. Historic preservation in the 21st century helps tell a broad range of stories from a variety of eras: https://www.change.org/p/stop-the-demolition-of-historic-ed
