This is the second challenge -brown skin as opposed to black. To complicate it further, I tried bouncing light off the glowing ground so there are 2 light sources.
Finally able to get back to painting. This is the year of challenges - reflections on silver and glass, light refracting in liquid, textural effects such as rust, fading paint, old concrete etc. This month I wanted to try black and brown skin. Having never painted anything but white skin it was a challenge because it has shades of green, blue, purples and reds. White skin has those shades too but much much paler. If I am really brave, I may try a self-portrait next. This is "Creole Clarinet".
Life wasn't hard enough so I decided to try my hand at reflections, "Tea for Two". It wasn't too bad until I got to the part where what is on the silver tray reflects in the teapot which reflects back onto the tray. Trying to get the change in values that occurs with each reflection was enough to make me snatch myself bald. Well, I did it and now I know why I don't do much realism. Awfully tedious. #boldbrush #art #artist... #artwork #fine art #painting #art of the day #contemporary art #original artwork #instaart #barbaradeugarte #oil painting #wall art #oil #mixed media #cold wax #abstract #realism #impressionism #landscape #still life #seascape #portrait See more
I was notified several days ago by FASO's Bold Brush Contest that I had won "1st place Abstract" and that I would be featured on the "Informed Collector" fine art views newsletter today. If you are interested in seeing the post and painting, you can go to www.editorfineartviews.com. I posted the painting (mixed media, oil, cold wax) previously as "Tools of the Trade". The prize comes with a cash award and other perks in regard to marketing on FASO and Bold Brush. I am thrilled. Now I might put off the bonfire a little longer.
I am waiting for this cat to escape confinement and head to that warm, relaxing beach. With my luck, it is a mirage and what is actually there is a landfill. Still, worth the try.
No! It is not selfie Saturday ( don't I wish). This is a pair of figures representative of naked feelings. One is the pain of a wound and the other, the twisted form of a scar (cicatrix). They were painted before the seagull/wind painting which was sorely needed after finishing these.
My latest painting while locked up on house arrest and social isolation from Covid - wishing for childhood with its freedom of movement, its imagination, and innocence- to be a seagull on a warm sunny beach, dancing on the wind .
I was just notified by FASO's Bold Brush Contest that I made the FAV15% (the judges favorite 15% of entries) for April with "Havana Hounds" and for July with "Snowstorm on Market Street". Didn't win anything but inching closer! Oh well, back to the studio. Will post some recent paintings as soon as I get them photographed.
A recent painting of a house front in Havana. Painting is titled "Perro Callejero" or Street Dog. Havana was interesting but depressing but makes for scenes that are fun to paint. It must have been beautiful once.
Latest painting, "Vida de la Noche" (Night Life). Side street in Havana.
