Returned. As if it's not hard enough to be a shelter pet, imagine being a *returned* shelter pet. Day after day, returned animals sit in their kennels, being passed over for "newer" pets who have no history of not working out in someone's home. And at night, it's the worst when when we're tucking them into their kennels. They know. Trust us, they know. Friends, this is Drone. He was adopted before. It didn't work out. And while our staff is doing everything they can to hug him and love him and reassure him that the perfect family just hasn't found him yet, we can see his spirit crush each night that we have to turn off the lights, knowing that he wasn't chosen to go home that day. Tomorrow, we hope that when we turn off the lights, Drone is, finally, home. Meet him tomorrow. We open at noon.

I bet you didn't recognize 5 year old Brock A. Lee when he decided to wear his Small Fry hat today in honor of National Dress Up Your Pet Day! Speaking of food, Brock A. Lee would be thrilled to show you how well mannered he is in exchange for a yummy treat the next time you stop by the shelter! But first, he'd love to see his furry friends in their favorite outfits! Post your pet in their best in the comments below!

Zigzagoon sure does love his little house, but what he really wants is a home of his own! We still have 5 hamsters up for adoption at the Animal Rescue League of Berks County. If you know anyone looking to add a hamster to their family, please share this with them.

Nine months old and as playful as can be, Mick the mackerel kitten went Home for the Holidays as a foster with our beloved volunteer, Gail. Since he's been in her care, Gail has been working with Mick to learn new skills, like how to head bump on command and walk through hoops as part of The Jackson Galaxy Project's Cat Pawsitive program. Gail writes, "As Mick’s 'Home for the Holidays' foster, I expected him to have a brief respite from shelter life, some room to stretch hi...s legs, play and relax. What I didn’t expect was a cat who, after a couple days and the use of the Cat Pawsitive program, to blossom into a please-pet-me, head-bumping, love-to-roll-around-your-legs kitty. One word to describe him is AWESOME!" If you'd like to meet Mick, we'd be thrilled to introduce you to this handsome kitten! You can set up an appointment to meet him virtually or in person through our adoption team by calling the shelter at 610-373-8830 or by emailing [email protected].

Ready to be your favorite sidekick, Lola is a lovely and beautiful 4 year old with a heart as big as her whiskers! Although she may be a little bit shy when you first meet her, give her some time to blossom and she'll be happy to hang with other cats, kids and even small pups! Meet her when we open tomorrow at 1!
