Woohoo! ROG Orthodontics sent over some scrumptious Sweet Ride Ice Cream, LLC to help us beat the heat! Dr. Smith's hubby is hoping some leftover Mint Chocolate Chip makes its way home after work. Good luck with that! Thanks ROG!!!

We finally have the chance to introduce the newest member of the Berks Prosthodontics team, even though she's not really new anymore! Everyone, meet Elaine! Elaine took over front desk duties with almost no notice when Ashley went out on maternity leave early and learned all the ins and outs of Prosthodontics in no time. She instantly filled one of her many notebooks with all the information she needed and went to work! There isn't a detail she misses! It probably shoul...dn’t have come as a surprise that she could pick everything up so quickly since Elaine has worked in just about every area of dentistry over the course of her accomplished career-- from Certified Dental Assistant, to Orthodontics Assistant, to Office Manager, and now the newest member of the team at Berks Prosthodontics, she has really done it all! Elaine was raised on an orchard in Maryland but has lived in Denver, PA, for almost 30 years. No wonder she seems to know everyone who comes into the office! She loves spending time with her husband Chris and her son Dan, and her favorite activities include going to the beach, reading, biking, gardening, and her newest hobby - riding her Vespa! Elaine is the perfect combination of getting things done and having fun while doing it. We are so lucky to have found her to join the team!

It's Dental Assistants Recognition Week! Everyone's seen our team of amazing dental assistants in action, but where did they get all those skills? Caroline, our laboratory technician/dental assistant earned her Associates Degree in Dental Technology from New York City College of Technology in Brooklyn, where she graduated with High Honors! Raquel, Dr. Smith's primary chairside assistant, graduated from Berks Technical Institute with her dual Associates Degree in Specialized B...usiness and Dental Assisting. Additionally, Raquel furthered her training at BTI with an Expanded Functions Dental Assisting Certification! Ashley, our front desk coordinator/dental assistant attended York Technical Institute for Dental Assisting, where she graduated at the top of her class and earned YTI’s Student Ambassador Award. Ashley also holds a Bachelors Degree in Geography with a History Minor from Millersville University! Elaine, our newest team member, received her training and certification in Dental Assisting from the Medix School in Towson, Maryland, and earned an Associates Degree in Business, with Honors, from Catonsville Community College! Where did you or your favorite dental assistant go to school or receive training? Or did you learn on the job? We'd love to hear! #DARW2020 Berks Prosthodontics American Dental Assistants Association Berks Technical Institute - Wyomissing, PA YTI Career Institute - Lancaster New York City College of Technology (City Tech) News #MedixSchool Fortis Colleges and Institutes CCBC Millersville University Pennsylvania Dental Assistants Association

Fashion show at Berks Prosthodontics! Our friends at ROG Orthodontics gave us these smiley tooth socks because they know we have the happiest ankles in town! We jumped right into the spirit and paraded them around for the world to see. If you were one of today's patients and your teeth came out extra smiley, you can thank ROG Orthodontics! (Okay, we're better at teeth than we are at selfies!) Orthodontists are to Braces as Prosthodontists are to "prosthetic" teeth such as Dentures, Bridges, Crowns and Veneers. The two specialties often work together to create fantastic smiles!

Check out this halfway-finished new smile for a patient born with Ectodermal Dysplasia! Let's drop in on Dr. Smith in the Berks Prosthodontics lab! Today she's creating all new dentition for a patient born with ectodermal dysplasia, a rare hereditary disorder that disrupts normal tooth development. This teenage patient had no adult teeth and her remaining baby teeth were beginning to become sensitive. To make her new smile, Dr. Smith uses stone casts of the patient's teeth mo...unted on a hinged instrument called an articulator, which precisely simulates the movements of the patient's jaws. This allows Dr. Smith to make sure the new smile she's building is not just beautiful but also opens and closes and functions perfectly. When Dr. Smith finishes this stage of the process, the new dentition will be converted into permanent upper and lower implant-retained full-arch bridges made of zirconia. Our patient can't wait to get her new teeth! She says she is most looking forward to biting into her first juicy apple! #ArtandScience #BerksProsthodontics #MaxillofacialProsthodontist

This fun-loving patient's teeth were ready for retirement but HE sure wasn't! New snap-in implant-retained partials in the back and a handsome new porcelain bridge in front completely rejuvenated his winning smile! When today's #TransformationThursday patient came to us he only had 3 good teeth remaining. The rest were a mishmash of uncomfortable partial dentures and an unsightly bridge in the front that was hanging on for dear life. Dr. Smith gave him a brand new smile using... implant-retained snap-in partials in the back and this gorgeous new porcelain bridge! To ensure that a new smile will look handsome and harmonious with a patient's face, Dr. Smith first hand-carves her bridge design out of orange wax (see pic 4), which allows her to get the teeth just right in terms of size, shape and angulation. Fun Fact: She uses orange wax because it allows the eye to perceive more detail than a white or tooth-colored wax. The final bridge is made from porcelain fused to a lightweight but extremely strong and durable alloy framework. Careful consideration to tooth color, translucency and even the various shades of pink present in a patient's gums contributes to the bridge having a beautiful and natural appearance. In case you can't tell from that broad grin you see in all these pictures, this very charismatic patient seemed to enjoy the process as much as we enjoyed working with him! #WaxOnWaxOff #BerksProsthodontics #TransformationThursday

Ashley said she was taking 12 weeks maternity leave, but look at her...4 weeks exactly and she can't stay away! Actually she's just treating everyone to a visit from little Miss Claira this morning! Look at that little peanut!
