The Bethel Park Lions Club is a proud sponsor of Adopt a Family South Hills program!

On November 3rd, our speaker was Audrey Wetterau with her mom Amy. Audrey is a student at Boyce Middle School in Upper St. Clair. She started a charity, Socks with a Mission, whose motto is helping the homeless one step at a time. If you did not come to this meeting, you missed an astounding young (11 years old) speaker who was inspired by meeting a homeless man and learning about the #1 item needed by the homeless, WARM SOCKS! The homeless often walk miles per day, and f...oot problems made worse by wet or inadequate socks can prevent them from getting food and other necessities. Shelters in this area are currently serving three times the normal number of clients, and winter is coming. Audrey has collected over 5,000 pairs of socks during the past year, and her goal is to get several pairs of socks for each homeless person in the Pittsburgh area. Club members present at her presentation donated dozens of pairs. Audrey, who should be an inspiration to every Lion, also completed Socktober at her school. It has now been 1 year since we last had a new member join. We need volunteer firefighters now more than ever. While we can't offer you any pay, we can offer a ...wide range of other things. Camaraderie, purpose, a feeling of making a difference, motivation, a second family to count on, a way to give back to your community every day, an opportunity to ride on fire trucks and use sirens, a chance to become a hero, cool helmets, and yes we do provide some benefits like life insurance. We are a family friendly organization as most of our members have kids at home, so know we do understand busy schedules and your kids will likely want to come visit the fire trucks with you sometimes. We provide everything you will need so this doesn't cost you anything but some of your time. We need you.
