It's National Gluten-Free Day! Let's make the most of Gluten-Free Day by sharing this post along with the links below to educate others about the gluten-free diet and the seriousness of being gluten-free for those living with celiac disease. Right now, there are no pharmaceutical treatments or cures for celiac disease, the gluten-free diet is all we have. It is not a fad diet or trendy weight loss diet for those living with celiac disease or non-celiac gluten sensitivity. A 1...00% gluten-free diet is the only existing treatment. If not followed strictly, the consumption of gluten could have negative impacts on physical and mental health and wellbeing. Infertility, liver disease, migraines, peripheral neuropathy, type 1 diabetes and even certain cancers have all been linked to celiac disease. 1. The Gluten-Free Diet: https://hubs.ly/H0DMrdP0 2. Our first podcast of 2021! Download the Celiac Straight Talk podcast on Itunes, Stitcher and Google Play. In this episode director of communications, Claire Baker spoke with Courtney and Mitchell Gaer about celiac disease in their family. Courtney speaks on her experiences as a mother caring for a child with celiac disease and the journey of how Mitchell was finally diagnosed. Mitchell speaks about what it's like being diagnosed and living with celiac disease as a young man.... He is now in college and offers great advice on successfully living gluten-free as a college student. We also touched on non-celiac gluten sensitivity (aka gluten intolerance) which they believe Mitchell's younger brother has. We thank the Gaer family for sharing their story with us as it offers great insight and advice for those whose lives are affected by celiac disease and gluten intolerances. See more

Weekend History: Celiac disease is a serious, genetic autoimmune disease. It is believed that celiac disease first began in humans at the advent of the first agricultural revolution. As early human diets began to expand, adding in grains, domesticated livestock and cultivated crops, most bodies were able to adapthowever, some did not and certain food sensitivities, intolerances and celiac disease made their first appearances in human history. In 2008, an archaeological dig in Cosa, Italy revealed an 18-20-year-old woman from the first century AD, with signs of failure to thrive and malnutrition. The skeleton showed the presence of the celiac gene HLA-DQ2.5 and damage typically seen from celiac disease.
As the world begins to roll out vaccines for COVID-19, we’ve received a number of inquiries from our community about their safety along with the safety of vaccines in general for those with celiac disease. To help answer some of the most common questions we’re receiving, we asked Salvo Alesci, MD, Beyond Celiac Chief Scientist and Strategy Officer for his thoughts: https://www.beyondceliac.org/celiac-news/covid-19-vaccines/
RESEARCH NEWS: The first brain imagining research involving gluten sensitive patients was part of a small pilot study that looked at neurological symptoms and how soon they occur after gluten exposure.
