Lower Merion/Narberth Fundraiser for Melissa Shusterman, State Rep. Candidate for District 157 (Please Share) Democratic Committee of Lower Merion and Narberth chair Jonathan Shapiro and I are hosting a fundraiser for Melissa Shusterman, the Democratic candidate for State Rep. in District 157, part of which is in western Montgomery County. The event will take place Sunday, February 4, from 10:30 a.m. 12:00 p.m., at my home (Bryn Mawr). Like many Democrats and members of gr...assroots organizations, we are attempting to do our part to support Democratic candidates running in neighboring districts, and we’re hoping you’ll help us. That’s the key to taking control in Harrisburg and Washington, DC. Melissa is an exceptional candidate for elected office. She’s a 4th-generation resident of the greater Phoenixville area, and has the business and life experience, commitment to her community, and new ideas needed to make an effective legislator. Read more about Melissa at http://www.melissashusterman.com/about/. Online registration will be open shortly. Until then, please set aside the date and time. And if you’re interested in serving as a co-host for the event, please contact me at [email protected]. P.S. Wondering What You Can Do After the Election? (Please Share) Start preparing for the 2018 midterms, that’s what. Actually, this process has been underway for a while. Campaigns for candidates running for re-election, such as Senator Casey, Governor Wolf, Congressman Evans, and all of our state reps, are in full swing. Candidates looking to flip seats in the PA General Assembly and the U.S. House have been busy getting ready for the PA Primary Election on May 15. Here is some ...information about two campaign events this Sunday, November 12, I urge you to consider attending: State Rep. Mary Jo Daley and Honorary Event Chair Connie Williams invite you to Women Who Win a brunch in support of Mary Jo’s 2018 re-election campaign. The event is 11:30 1:30 at Plymouth Country Club, 888 Plymouth Road, Plymouth Meeting. The special guest speaker is A’shanti Gholar, Political Director of Emerge America. To RSVP and donate online, click http://bit.ly/WomenWhoWin-Nov12-Daley, or contact Vanessa Gervasi DeRose at 484-222-0745 or [email protected]. Sponsorship opportunities still available; see the event invitation below for details. Please support Mary Jo and help her continue to lead on important progressive issues in Harrisburg and fight back against the insanity brought on by the extreme right. Reception for Beth Tarasi, who is running for Congress in PA’s 12th Congressional District outside of Pittsburgh (https://www.tarasiforcongress.com). The event is 6:00 to 7:30 at the home of DCLMN volunteer Kerry Halpern-Skoglund. If we want to take control of the U.S. House, Democrats in Lower Merion and Narberth must be willing to support candidates in flippable districts outside our area. Beth is running to replace extreme conservative Keith Rothfus, who votes with Trump over 92% of the time. (Review his profile at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Keith_Rothfus to see some of the awful legislation he has supported.) What’s more, the only reason he’s in Congress is because the 12th was redistricted in 2012. Before 2012, when Rothfus first won the seat, the 12th was a reliably Democratic district. So, join Kerry, meet Beth, and help turn PA blue. See the invitation below for RSVP instructions.

WARNING: Deceitful Messages from Republican Candidate Making the Rounds Don’t Fall For It While the following applies directly to Ward 2 voters (Gladwyne & Penn Valley), ALL Democrats and Independents should keep the incident described below in mind when they see messages being circulated by any Republican candidate this fall. Republican Ken Tepper, who is running against incumbent Commissioner Josh Grimes in Ward 2, just sent a postcard to Gladwyne & Penn Valley residents,... including Democrats, stating that he, Tepper, is endorsed by U.S. Senator Bob Casey. The truth: Bob Casey does NOT endorse Tepper. He DOES endorse Josh Grimes. Read Senator Casey’s letter below. What kind of person does what Tepper did? Someone not fit to be a public servant! Please share this information with anyone you know who lives in Ward 2.

Since 2014, June has been recognized as Immigrant Heritage Month in the U.S. Please read the message below from Congressman Dwight Evans about the significance of this month-long celebration of immigrants’ contributions to U.S. history, commerce, and culture. I also encourage you to follow through on Congressman Evans’ request to sign the pledge to stand with immigrants that is available at https://www.iamanimmigrant.com/#join, where you’ll also find information about activit...ies you can engage in to show to your support and join in the celebration. In addition, you’ll find a local calendar of events for Immigrant Heritage Month at http://bit.ly/PhillyCelebratesImmigrantHeritageMonth. And lastly, I urge you to attend the Vigil to Reunite Jonatan & Lillie, an event to support Lower Merion resident Jonatan Palacios, who was arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents while his wife Lillie looked on in horror. The vigil will take place in the parking lot of SEPTA’s Haverford Station, starting at 5:15 sharp. If you arrive a few minutes before 5:15, the group is planning to meet at Sharpe Park and Bird Sanctuary (405 Montgomery Avenue in Haverford) and walk across the street to the station. You are encouraged to wear blue, Jonatan's favorite color, and bring signs with messages of support.
