Saturday, October 17th, is National Move Over Day. National Move Over Day was started in 2014 by the Arizona Professional Towing Association to help raise publ...ic awareness to the Move Over Law. All 50 states have enacted Move Over laws, yet the National Highway Safety Transportation Administration estimates that over 70% of drivers in the United States are not familiar with them. Emergency responders and roadway workers are struck on a daily basis. In the United States, on average, two emergency responders are struck while working along the roadway each day. One emergency responder is struck and killed every seven days. In 2019, 44 emergency responders were struck and killed in the United States. So far this year, even with traffic volume down significantly since March due to COVID-19, 38 emergency responders have been struck and killed. This includes two emergency responders in Pennsylvania: Matt Smelser, a paramedic in Westmoreland County and Tyler Laudenslager, a tow operator and volunteer firefighter in Berks County. Pennsylvania emergency responders and roadway workers rely on your good judgment to help get them home safely at the end of the day. For their sake, please SLOW DOWN to not more than 20 mph below the posted speed limit and MOVE OVER for responders and roadway workers. #MoveOver #PennTIME #ResponderSafety
