At first I thought, ‘How do I do a job that I have not worked in before?’ said Caulk, who started his career in student affairs at Montclair State University, has a bachelor’s in psychology from Fairleigh Dickinson University and a master’s of education in counseling with a dual focus in student affairs and elementary education from Bloomsburg University. But I was newly out when I got to Rutgers. October 24, 1945 75 years ago, a special assembly program was held to mark the end of the naval training programs on the Bloomsburg State Teachers College campus in the Carver Hall auditorium. The servicemen honored included 140 members of the V-12 officer training program. The naval programs were vital to the financial stability of the college during World War II when regular student enrollment decreased dramatically. Because of a Civilian Pilot Training program instituted... in 1940 through the efforts of President Harvey A. Andruss, the college was able to secure the V-5 program for naval flight instructors beginning in the fall of 1942. They were given the junior high school building for use as office and classroom space, which soon and forever after has been known as Navy Hall. The Bloomsburg Airport was used for hands-on flight experience, while members of the faculty adapted their academic discipline to provide classroom instruction in a military course of study.
