Blue Dog Farms 12.11.2020

Howdy Friends of the Farm, There seem to be quite a few new to our page so we thought we'd take a moment to introduce ourselves a little. We are the Van Nice Family at Blue Dog Farms, in New Freedom PA. This is about the most cleaned up and dressed up as you will see us! Dan and Giana moved the family to PA in 2010 and began Blue Dog Farms. Giana is a veteran of the US Navy and Dan has been farming all his life. ... Our farm raises grass fed and grass finished beef, pasture raised, non-GMO chicken and pork and Thanksgiving turkey birds. You can read more about us at our website here: www.bluedogfarms.net Or you can peruse our online store to see what we currently have in stock here: https://app.barn2door.com/e/9p6DQ We do sell quarter and half cows and are taking deposits for September (!) currently. We also will have whole hogs available in 2021, but we are working with our USDA butcher and our pig breeder on exact timing. In the mean time, we hope you will check out our small, family farm and let us know what questions you have. This is our passion and we love meeting people who are interested in learning about what we love to do! Thanks for reading, thanks for being friends of the farm, and thanks for trusting us to grow your food. It's incredibly humbling. <3

Friends of the Farm, This is a tough post to write. We all know this year has been tough on everyone, and that includes your local farming friends too. Giana lost her job at the end of August, we've doubled our efforts to supply you the best pasture raised meats, sustainably and responsibly grown, and we've kept all our prices the same. In April, we even LOWERED chicken prices to make our chicken affordable to everyone. As we sit here reviewing our plans for 2021 and beyon...d, we want to be here to serve you and that means, we need to raise some of our prices. We don't do this lightly. For example, we have intentionally NEVER raised our grass fed and grass finished ground beef prices, EVER. We do this because we want it to be accessible, even to those who are on a tight budget. With that said, even places like Giant with their Giant brand are charging $7.79 per lb for their Nature's promise ground beef, which is NOT even grass fed and grass finished! If you look at their grass fed beef, it is $8.99 per lb and if you've ever spoken with us about that, it means it was GRAINED at the end, so it is NOT grass finished! Our freezers are full, meaning tons of electricity usage; but this way you can have pasture raised chicken, beef and pork even during the winter months. Still, it costs money to store product and electricity for freezers is another big expense for the farm. We didn't want to raise prices, without letting you know first and giving you the opportunity to stock up, especially on ground beef, which is currently $5.99 per lb but we will be raising to $6.99 per lb on December 15th. The rest of the pricing adjustments will take place on Jan 1, 2021, and there aren't many but they are important. With all this said, if you are HUNGRY, having a hard time and need food, WE will help you. We've received donations from friends of the farm specifically to help needy in our community and we will continue to do so. Thanks for reading, thanks for supporting and loving on us, and thanks for trusting us to grow your food! Pasture raised chicken from Blue Dog Farms was used in my homemade chicken noodle soup. Baked the chicken breasts and legs/thighs first. The usual celery, onion, carrots, parsley, thyme, salt pepper in a chicken stock. Finished with egg noodles like grandma would have made. Makes for a good meal when the weather gets colder. From long time friend of the farm and masterful chef Bobby Bowers ! Pick up your chicken and be prepared for those colder days by shopping here>>> http...s://app.barn2door.com/e/9p6DQ/all #bluedogfarms #pasturepoultry #chickennoodlesoup
