The person who has created all the new identity and who's been doing all the posting since February is no longer available. Anyone with a passion for social media and has a basic grounding in simple design, typography, photoshop, etc... we want to know about you. Of course, like so many such entities, this is volunteer work, we're sorry to say. However, there's great latitude to express yourself in a style consistent with our overall identity we've recently established.

A short, but interesting, article about BENJAMIN HENRY LATROBE and his work surveying the lower part of the Susquehanna River around 1801. Be sure to click the tab "Painting While He Worked" for some lovely watercolor sketches he did in the area of Washington Boro. https://www.susquehannaheritage.org//latrobes-view-of-the/

REMEMBERING LANCASTER COUNTY: Stories from Pennsylvania Dutch Country by Jack Brubaker Fiery Patriots, resourceful inventors and brilliant artists have all hailed from Lancaster County. Fall has arrived! Welcome to the colorful palette of changing leaves. Artist Lloyd Mifflin (1846 1921) spent most of his life in Columbia, Lancaster County. ...This close proximity to the Susquehanna River provided Mifflin with the opportunity to study the waterway throughout the changing seasons. An Autumn Afternoon captures the beauty of a sunny fall day in Pennsylvania. For his location, Mifflin chose the bank opposite of a ridge with colorful foliage from the skyline to the water’s edge. Lloyd Mifflin has the largest representation of any artist in the fine art collection. The Mifflin collection includes work he created during a European Grand Tour as well as portraits and landscapes. The largest portion of the Mifflin collection was donated to the museum by Grace and Loretta Minich in 1962. #CuratorsChoice #SeePAArt #Fall Explore this piece and others in our online collections database -> http://ow.ly/jCjN50BI0oQ

All three are labeled as "Edwin L. Kise, Jr. / Proprietor" and were shot in 1960. We've colorized them to help with clarity. Two of the images are obviously the front and back of the same structure. The all-white house appears to be another structure. I'm sure there are some of you who can elucidate further.

A few more photos from Blue Rock friend, Carl Foltz. These are from the 1959 flood. In his words: Here are some 1959 Susquehanna flood pics I came across. The first is a work train clearing the tracks of ice from the Susquehanna ice jam. I believe it was taken at the Shultztown riverfront. The next is along River Road near the Charlestown Road. You can see the store/post office. The third one is taken near the Creswell/Turkey Point area. The 4th one was taken along Long Level on the west bank. You can see the damage caused by huge chunks of ice piled up by the river. When they say "ice jam," they're not kidding. Again, thanks to Carl for sharing images and memories.
