Blue Mountain Elementary East 02.12.2020

Important Announcements - December 14, 2020 COVID-19 Instructional Changes The Blue Mountain School District was informed of additional positive COVID-19 cases ...at BMHS and BMEE. Active cases as of the time of this announcement are: Blue Mountain High School - 4 Blue Mountain Elementary East - 3 In a county with Substantial rate of transmission, schools classified as small (with a population less than 500) are expected to move to an online format for 3-7 days with 2-4 positive cases. BMEE falls under this classification. Therefore, BMEE will move to an all online instructional format for the rest of this week (Tuesday- Friday) and will return to in-person instruction on Monday, December 21, 2020. BMHS is classified as medium (500-900 students). Under those same guidelines, schools with 4-6 positive cases are expected to move to an online format for 3-7 days. Therefore, BMHS will also move to an all online instructional format for the remainder of this week. Please be advised that we are aware of at least four (4) additional people waiting for test results at the high school. If three (3) or more of these tests are positive, we will be required to move to an all online instructional format for 14 days (until January 4, 2021). Pending Winter Storm We applied for and were granted permission by the Pennsylvania Department of Education to move to an online format for up to five (5) days due to inclement weather. They are referred to as Flexible Instructional Days (FID). We may move to an online format as an entire school district for these days. We will not move to an online instructional format if there are significant power or internet outages due to weather conditions. As of now, it looks like we will move to an online format later this week due to an anticipated storm. Some forecasts are predicting blizzard like conditions with strong winds and drifting snow. If this occurs and power outages are common, we will simply have an old fashioned snow day. If a school day has been declared as FID, students are expected to log on and follow their normal schedule as many of our students have done during temporary closures. Any student unable to log on for a power or internet access issue should report it to their respective school. The absence will be considered excused. Please monitor this situation closely for future announcements via Facebook, Eagle Express and our district’s webpage.
