The Borough would like to take a moment and answer the big question; What is going on in the streets this year when it comes to plowing? Our main goal during any snowstorm is to remove the snow curb to curb. However, this is an unprecedented year. Towards the end of the 2020 snow season, the Borough’s 5-ton dump truck mechanically failed. The cost to repair the truck was at a point that the Borough did not feel it was prudent to invest money into an 18-year-old truck. Th...e Borough was in the process of purchasing a new dump truck through a grant. This fact made the decision to retire the older truck easier. Unfortunately, due to the pandemic, the truck order has been delayed multiple times. We are handling the snow events with a limited fleet of equipment. At the start of this winter season, we were down a truck which was followed by a 25-inch snowstorm. A storm that we have not seen in this area in quite a while. However, since that storm we have been trying to take it easy on one of our other trucks; it is the oldest in the fleet. Sadly, the truck’s transmission failed in the middle of another storm. It should be back in service soon. We are doing the best that we can to make sure that the centers of each street are passable during the storm. We can then move forward to get to the curb areas as time and weather permits. Please keep in mind, it is very difficult to try to push huge snow piles that are being placed behind vehicles. Remember, as you are clearing snow around your parked car it is best not to push the snow into the street; that way, the process to clear the street to the curb is easier and quicker. We appreciate your patience and understanding.

The Borough Council for the Borough of South Williamsport will be filling the unexpired term of the Honorable David Lechniak at the scheduled Borough Council meeting on January 11, 2021 at 6 p.m. This meeting will be held remotely. The successful candidate will serve as Borough Mayor until December 31, 2021. Interested candidates are requested to submit a letter of interest to Steven Cappelli, Borough Manager at Borough Hall. Borough Hall is located at 329 West Southern Avenue, South Williamsport, PA 17702. Any letter of interest must be submitted by 4 p.m. on January 8, 2021 in order to be considered. Candidates must be at least 18 years of age and a registered voter residing within the Borough of South Williamsport.

**Traffic Advisory** Thursday January 7, 2021 Public Works will be taking down snowflake lights Thursday morning. Traffic will be slow moving on Riverside Drive, West Southern Avenue, Market Street and Hastings Street while they take the lights down.

In honor and memory of the late and honorable Mayor David Lechniak, borough flags will be flown at half mast this week.

Leaf Collection has ended. The crew made one final pass today just for a final cleanup. Please do not put anymore leaves out along the streets. If you still have leaves to clean up, the Mulch Area is available. Please stop by Borough Hall to get a key to access the Mulch Area.

Monday, November 2 the leaf crew will be starting on Howard Street, weather permitting.

The Leaf Truck will be starting on Jaculin Avenue this morning.

Leaf Collection Reminder: Due to high traffic, the Borough asks that residents who reside on Hastings Street, Market Street, Riverside Drive and Southern Avenue East to the Intersection of Riverside Drive, bag their leaves. The bags should be placed between the sidewalk and curb and a public works employee will pick them up.

As you may have seen, Leaf Collection has begun and will continue until sometime after the Thanksgiving Holiday. Weather permitting as usual. The Leaf Crew will be starting on Hill Street to begin next week, weather permitting. Keep posted for further updates of where the leaf truck is within the Borough.

The mulch area is closed today! The Tub Grinder is there today and possibly tomorrow, we'll let you know when the mulch pile is back in business.

The Borough of South Williamsport is selling our 2003 International Dump Truck. It was previously attempted to sell on Municibid.com, however, the bids did not meet our reserve level. It is currently parked in the CVS parking lot for easier viewing. We will be taking offers until Friday, June 12, 2020. The Borough reserves the right to refuse any and all offers. South Williamsport Lions club will be doing a chicken bbq on June 27th from noon until sold out. Spread the word!! See you then!!

The Mulch Area is open from 7:30 A.M. through 3:15 P.M. Monday through Friday. The area will be open 24/7 on the weekend.
