Hello all, it’s with sad news that I post...Fred Garber died this morning. We will miss you Pastor Fred!
No church this Sunday.
In December, the Historical Society lost a friend and former board member to ALS. Clarke E. Hess wrote a book titled Mennonite Arts and, starting at the age of 12, was a life-long collector of items connected to Mennonites, art, and family history. Part of Clarke’s collection will be sold at auction and that the Lancaster Mennonite Historical Society is scrambling to respond to this unanticipated situation. It’s a once in a lifetime opportunity to preserve history. As an arti...st, writer, and researcher myself, I’d like to honor his life’s work and the level of detail and dedication he showed in preserving history by collecting funds that can be used by the Historical Society to purchase and preserve key items that connect us all to art, Mennonites, family history and local history. Join me in giving and sharing. Your contribution will make a big difference. -Christine Minnich
As you may know (or maybe not) Fred and Linda are retiring at the end of this year from their 30plus years of pastoring at Bossler. We are setting aside a special day on December 9th 2018 to honor and appreciate them for all they have done over the years. Worship Service of Remembering: 10am... Fellowship meal: Noon Community Drop in 2pm-4pm You are welcome to join us for any or all of the events planed for December 9th.
Who else can’t believe it’s nearly November?
Happy Thanksgiving!
Christmas Caroling this week! Dec 2nd, 6 pm.
Late last week, the reprints of "The Earth is the Lord's" arrived, and are now available for sale. Order online, give us a call or stop by to pick up your copy ...today. https://www.biblio.com//earth-lords-narrative-/d/245154031 In The Earth Is the Lord’s a story-laden past unfolds dramatically, starting with persecution of Anabaptists in Switzerland and the Palatinate and following them to America. The future Lancaster County’s first Mennonists arrive at Philadelphia in 1710. John Ruth adds folk memory to extensive documentation and careful explanation of key beliefs and practices, carrying the account to 1977. Surnames of the seventy-six immigrant families include: Baer, Bowman, Brackbill, Brenneman, Brubaker, Burkholder, Eby, Funk, Groff, Kreider, Herr, Hess, Hershey, Hostetter, Kauffman, Kendig, Landis, Leaman, Miller, Moyer, Mylin, Nissley, Neff, Shenk, Stoner, Swarr, Weber, Witmer, Yordy. Many other Mennonite surnames are mentioned in the book but are not listed here.
We know her as Miss Ruth, a teacher. She started her teaching career in a one room school at age 16 and continued teaching in Rheems, as well as teaching us in Sunday School and serving as treasurer for many years. We will miss you, Ruth. We admired your energy and enthusiasm for life. Blessings to her family as you mourn her loss. -cm
