Bowman's Hill Wildflower Preserve 26.03.2021

The smell of skunk cabbage can come across as musty, reminiscent of skunk (thus the name), and even a little unpleasant. The plant is looking to attract pollinators who are interested in carrion and the smell has been easy to pick up in the air around Founders Pond right now with the warm, dry weather. Inside the spathe is a ball shaped spadix that is covered with the tiny flowers. In the coming weeks the leaves of the plant will emerge hiding any evidence of the flower. #skunkcabbage #spring #plantnatives #buckscountypa #buckscounty

Pidcock Creek isn’t just a beautiful feature of the Preserve, it feeds directly into the Delaware River and is a vital source of water for flora and fauna all around it. On this World Water Day let’s remember the importance of our fresh water resources and what we can do to protect and preserve them. By integrating native plants into our landscapes, we can use plants that are equipped to live in our region and support our local ecosystems. We can also use less fertilizers and chemicals when we plant native. #worldwaterday #plantnatives #pidcockcreek #buckscountypa #buckscounty #visitbuckscounty

NAME THAT PLANT! This native can be found in the meadows and open areas around the Preserve. It has great winter appeal with the sturdy stems and seed heads lasting into the winter. It can be tough to ID the specific species of these plants because there are a few natives that are similar. Pollinators love these flowers and they aren’t bothered by deer or rabbits. #plantnatives #leavetheseeds #buckscountypa #buckscounty #visitbuckscounty
