Boil Water Advisory Lifted 12-12-19 From Steve Disney, Executive Director at the Bradford City Water Authority. The precautionary boil water advisory imposed on us from the DEP on December 5th has immediately been lifted as of this moment Thursday December 12th. It is no longer advised to boil water. All customers of the Bradford City Water Authority including the Townships of Bradford, Foster, Lafayette and the Borough of Lewis Run can resume normal operations.... The test results from each of the past three (3) days indicate what we have believed all along, that our water is safe and always was safe. This has been an unnecessary hardship placed on our community by the DEP and we apologize for the major inconvenience, anxiety and economic impacts this has caused and we thank you for your patience. Boil Water Advisory Update - Monday December 9, 2019 The DEP has extended the boil water advisory another 24 hours, which extends it into at least part of the day on Thursday December 12th. This will allow at least another 3.0 million gallons to be processed through the system. They (DEP) want to be sure that an overly sufficient volume of water has been flushed through the entire distribution system and storage tanks. They have also granted permission to allow BCWA to obtai...n water samples from across the entire system on both Tuesday and Wednesday which will be submitted to an independent laboratory for analysis. Final results will be provided by late Thursday afternoon. Providing those results are all clear, immediate announcements will be issued lifting the boil water advisory by late Thursday afternoon. If results are not good, announcements of additional sampling and another boil water advisory extension are possible. Events such as this often times require immediate notification be sent to all affected customers. The Authority sent out an emergency notification last Thursday Night to all BCWA customers. Customers that did not receive the emergency phone call, need to register and enter their phone number and address to receive these emergency notifications. Please go to our Website at www.bradfordwater.com, at the bottom of the main page you’ll see Swift 911 Emergency Notification Services. Boil Water Advisory to Continue This current event is a precautionary measure which means customers should consider boiling water for one minute prior to washing dishes, food preparation, brushing teeth, making ice or consumption, or simply use bottled water. ... This resulted from a reduction of the pre-treatment process which caused turbidities to rise above normal levels. The DEP will not allow the boil water advisory to be lifted until a sufficient amount of water has passed through the entire distribution system, which will be in excess of 8.0 million gallons which will take us into Sunday. Once the distribution system has had a full 100% replenishment of new water, the DEP requires two consecutive days of system wide testing to ensure bacteria is not present. Those results will not be known until sometime Wednesday afternoon. So the boil water advisory will remain in effect at least through some point on Wednesday. As soon as we have results on Wednesday afternoon, we will provide immediate notification on whether to lift the advisory or to continue with the boil water advisory.

12-5-2019 Temporary Boil Water Advisory being issued As a result of a chemical feed pump malfunction today (Dec 5) at the Bradford Water Treatment Plant higher than normal turbidity levels were experienced for a very short time period. Because of this event a temporary boil water advisory is being issued as a precaution. All customers of the Bradford City Water system are included in this advisory, including Bradford, Foster and Lafayette Townships as well as Lewis Run Boro. ... Plant operators corrected the malfunctioning pump as soon as it was detected, however subsequent conversations with the Department of Environmental Protection indicated that as a precautionary measure, the system should issue a temporary boil water advisory to err on the side of caution. A boil water advisory means that you should consider boiling water for one minute before using for washing dishes, food preparation, brushing teeth, making ice or consumption. The boil water advisory is effective immediately and will remain in place until such time authorities determine that all affected water supplies have been refreshed. Turbidity has no health effects however, turbidity can interfere with disinfection and provide a means for microbial growth. These organisms include bacteria viruses and parasites which can cause symptoms such as nausea, cramps, diarrhea, and associated headaches. Those individuals with severely compromised immune systems, such as infants and some elderly persons may be at increased risk. If you experience any of these symptoms and they persist, you may want to seek medical advice as these symptoms are not only caused by organisms in drinking water. Throughout the next several days, the water authority will be taking representative samples from around the system to monitor corrective actions have been successful. Once it has been determined to lift the advisory, immediate notices will be issued.
