With that in mind, please see the note below from Natural Lands. Starting April 1, Natural Lands will be providing their nature preserves one day a week of R&R from visitors. For the 158th, this means Stroud Preserve will be closed to the public on Wednesdays and ChesLen Preserve will be closed to the public on Thursdays. More info below.

One of the best stories from CCHC is how the amazing Frederick Douglass daguerreotype came to be in our collection: As I opened a large ste...amer trunk, I followed along on the inventory. It contained a mix of materials, Albert Cook Myers academic gown, copies of his books, and a box labeled cased photographs. I expected to find tintypes of Myers’s ancestors but instead my jaw dropped as I opened the miniature case of a brilliant daguerreotype of Frederick Douglass! It contained a tiny note inside in Albert Cook Myers handwriting: Frederick A. Douglass presented by him to Susan B. Anthony whose niece, Miss Lucy E. Anthony gave it to Albert Cook Myers. Douglass himself gave his own image to Susan B. Anthony! Thus began my journey to verify this amazing story. I wrote to the Susan B. Anthony house in Rochester New York and their curators graciously verified that according to an inventory taken of the house, Douglass’s daguerreotype had been displayed on her mantelpiece. They had no information on the occasion when Douglass gave it to Anthony. Albert Cook Myers was given the daguerreotype by Lucy Anthony, Susan B. Earlier this week, I voted for HB 326 in the Veterans Affairs and Emergency Preparedness Committee and I'm excited to report that yesterday it passed the House unanimously. This bill will allow the state to utilize the National Guard's expertise in logistics to help with the rollout.

Like everyone else, I set out to run errands today, and with another snow storm on the way it was pretty crazy. Once again, I was struck by the inherent goodnes...s of people. I was stumbling through the post office parking lot, arms loaded with packages to ship, when a gentleman stopped me to say the window was closed. This man saved me the aggravation of getting all the way inside to learn this. As I attempted to keep my cart from rolling away and simultaneously unload several large, heavy items from my cart, a young man held the cart with his foot and we laughed about the challenges of being helpful while socially distant. A young check out woman smiled under her mask and very earnestly wished me a good day. Recently, I’ve been asked about how we are going to heal our society. How will we get through the division and the anxiety. My response is always the same. It’s very simple- the random, simple acts of kindness and acknowledgment of our shared humanity that I experienced today. When we meet eachother with love, in ordinary moments, it can change the course of someone’s day. The people I interacted with during my errands didn’t know what my political beliefs or voter registration were. They had no idea what my life was like or what I might carry in my heart. They were just kind. We can do this. We are going to be ok. #abovealllove
