BRC is pleased to join the Keystone 10 Million Trees Partnership in an ambitious endeavor to plant 10 million trees throughout Pennsylvania by 2025. We’re partnering with the Chester County Conservation District to distribute the trees to Chester County landowners. These 2,000 trees that arrived this week are all accounted for, but you can learn more about a fall tree distribution by contacting the conservation district later this spring. http://www.tenmilliontrees.org/... https://www.chesco.org/205/Conservation-District

The Red Clay Valley Clean Up will continue its decades long tradition in 2021, though in a modified, covid-19 safe format. This effort is even more critical than in years past due to recent flooding events, and that most routes have not been cleaned in almost two years. Volunteers will be limited to a total of 250, and groups/family pods will be limited to 10 people who will be asked to follow safety protocols. For more information or to sign up, please visit our FB event page.

Scrape, smash and squash is all you need to know if you find Spotted Lanternfly egg masses while you’re cleaning up your yard this winter. Be sure to NOT cut their favorite host tree, the invasive Tree of Heaven, even if it was treated with herbicide. Any living roots can result in hundreds of new tree sprouts. Look for a workshop in spring 2021 from BRC on what we’ve learned about managing SLF on our property, and for more information about the egg masses, check out: https://news.psu.edu//penn-state-experts-address-what-shou Photo Credit: Penn State Extension, E. Did you know that you can have your property certified as a Watershed Friendly Yard? This program is sponsored by the Penn State Extension and the Nurture Nature Center and recognizes landowners for the effort they put into their properties regarding water resource management, conservation and wildlife support.
