We had the opportunity to chat with Daksha Tanna and hear her powerful story of emigrating to the United States as a young woman and we are honored to share it with all of you. Can you provide us with a time in your life where you've demonstrated Strength, Generosity, Resiliency? One of the most difficult decisions I had to make was leaving my mother (who had heart disease) to come to America and pursue my dream of getting a graduate degree. I was personally very involved ...in her care at that time. Being the last of her children leaving home, the time we spent together was very special and created a stronger bond. At that time, there were no mobile phones or emails, and it was often difficult and expensive to keep in touch. Despite these barriers, my mother not only encouraged and supported my decision but also helped me persuade my father. I assured my parents that whatever I do, I will stay in touch with my core purpose and all the values they had instilled in me. I came to America with one suitcase and for almost 5 years moved from one place to another living out of my bag. After completing graduate school, I had 2 bags which included my books. During my time abroad, my mother suffered another heart attack and despite bypass surgery, she passed away. With my student visa, I could not even travel to be with family. This too was one of the most challenging times for me. However, it was my mother's love and belief in me that gave me inner strength, and my siblings’ constant support and understanding helped me move on. Over these eight years, I truly learned to be adaptable and grew from my many valuable opportunities/experiences and challenges. If not faced with adversity I would not have become strong and resilient. See more

Jeremy and I met back in high school at our church youth group. Through mutual friends we began hanging out, and quickly became friends. After a few years, we decided we were going to date. But, I was headed off to college and timing wasn’t right. We decided to go our separate ways. After almost 2.5 years of not talking, we reconnected and were inseparable since.
