Brewerytown Beats 11.02.2021

Almost 50 years ago a band was formed behind the walls at graterford prison.. after auditioning 1600 inmates 7 members were hand picked by then Activities director Theodore Wing.. On and off for the next four years the band practice in the prison and played shows outside of the prison. Gaining and losing members for different circumstances, they finally settled on lead singer Ronald Aikens. In early 2003 Ron decided to write down his memories of the entire experience. This is... his journal for the beginning of his life when he first met Patty Labelle, to his time in prison and being accepted into the Power Of Attorney band. With this journal we are going to produce a 10 part podcast based on Ron’s time with Power Of Attorney - The amazing story includes names like Shep Gordon, Bill Cosby, James Brown ect.. Changing Man.. The incredible story of the Power Of Attorney Band!

This guy right here has continued to produce dope shit, over and over again, reinventing himself in so many ways.. I am always in awe of his seemingly endless talent. I ask @mcschoollyd if he would make some art for our new shop.. he absolutely knocked it our of the park with them.. this is one of 4.. you’ll have to come see the new space to see the rest.. thank you Schoolly, you don’t know how much it means to me to have such a dope representation of Philly in our new spot.

Aiight, here we go.. our Discogs is down right now because of the move but that doesn’t stop the madness. We are trying to help out a friend in his time of need. Unfortunately he needs to get rid of his collection, and we are starting with some interesting, but used stuff.. descriptions below and he will be making the final call on offers. Honey & The Bees - Dynamite Exploded G - plays with noise. Plays all the way through. Maulawi - SEALED with dirt/mold/dust under the sh...rink. Record presumed mint. Cover is G at best. Byard Lancaster - Live At Macalester College - Cover is G+ - LP is in amazing shape, Vg+ or better Ambassadors - Ain’t Got The Love - G- - plays through, but with lots of noise. Slightly worse than the H&TB’s - DM me for more info.

When digging goes right.. my first time finding a copy of this incredible Philly soul LP was in a basement room of a row house, tucked deep back in a back room of a dark basement, besides the copy being thrashed, I pulled my phone out to look at the condition, and the entire closet was covered with plastic shoe-sized boxes containing live tarantulas!! What??? This TP I got within the past year, and can’t remember exactly where the LP came from. - the stickers are from the original recording studio at 919 N Broad St!

New acquisition - we think maybe mid-80’s - maybe more recent.. however it’s always good to get these things before they disappear -

Which #meltonbrothersband do you think came first? The colored version or the B&W version? I see some mention of things on Discogs, but still not sure what the first press was.. #illtakeyouthere - BTW I’ll be spinning some tunes at @maasbuilding tomorrow evening 6-10pm! Outdoors / beer / food - swing through!

The sub-committee for the historic Designation of Sigma Sound has PASSED the nomination. This is by no-means the end of the fight, but a great... first step. Thank you to @preservationalliance & @miketarsia, Joe Tarsia and the entire Sigma Sound family. #savesigmasound See more
