I’m a church member, now what?

Sermon Snippet: Why Should I Be a Church Member? (Pastor Vic Johnson) While the global Church is made of all believers, the local church is also important for our spiritual growth. Through regular attendance and the commitment of membership, we can receive encouragement to grow more like Christ (Heb. 10:24-25, Matt. 18:17), stay accountable (Heb. 3:17), be spiritually protected (1 Pet. 5:8), practice love and obedience through submission, and pour out our gifts for the benefit of others (Rom. 12:6-7). Is there anything that hinders you from church membership? If so, how can this obstacle become a catalyst for growth?

Sermon Snippet: Defining the Church (Pastor Victor Johnson) We are each a part of the church locally and universally - and the church was purchased by Jesus and belongs to God (not us). We belong in the church based on God’s grace, not our own doing. As members of the local and universal Body, we have different gifts. We are to use these gifts to serve one another. The early church knew the importance of worshipping God, Scripture, witnessing Jesus Christ, loving all people, and using their gifts for God’s glory and for the good of others. They committed themselves to regular worship, preaching/teaching, fellowship, prayer, and making disciples for Christ. How do we measure up against the early church? Do we still value and strive for the things that the early church did?
