Here is the update this morning on due dates: The Federal income tax return due date is now July 15, 2020. The first quarter estimated tax payment is also due July 15. At this time, the second quarter estimated tax payment is still due June 15, 2020 (yes, the 2nd quarter is due before the 1st quarter). The PA individual income tax due date has also been moved to July 15, 2020. Both the first and second quarter estimated tax payments are also due July 15.

Right now we could all use some good news. Here is mine for today: I want everyone to meet Maisey, the newest member of my "staff". She started a couple weeks ago as a temp worker - OK really, she just came up on our back porch and would not go away. I said one cat on staff was more than enough, but was out-voted at an executive board meeting. As you can see, Maisey is super sweet but does tend to doze off during staff meetings. She is looking forward to meeting you all ...at some point when all the social distancing is done. She likes to look out the windows, so maybe you could meet her that way. By the way, Isabella is not too crazy about this (she is slowly warming up) and refuses to share her hashtag #taxcat with Maisey. Guess Maisey will need to get her own. The IRS just released some official guidance regarding taxpayers affected by the COVID-19 virus. I need to read a bit more, but my first impression is that it is very limited and not what many people wanted. *****UPDATED******* So the IRS extended the payment deadline for 2019 balances due from April 15th to July 15th. They also extended the deadline for 1st quarter estimated payments from April 15th to July 15th as well. No extension of the due date to file returns. Apparently, the 2nd quarter estimated payments due June 15th are still due on that date. Not sure what the IRS is thinking on this one.

There has been a lot of misinformation spread by the media and on social media regarding yesterday’s announcement that the Treasury Department will be providing some type of tax payment relief or delay. The IRS has issued no official guidance; therefore, any details you have heard are premature. I will provide an update once there is any official word.

While I am not scheduling any face-to-face appointments at this time, there are other options to get your tax information to me in order to prepare your returns.
