We are closed for the season. It was a challenging season for our pool this year, but we survived and only lost 2 days due to the fire. I would like to thank everyone for their continued support throughout the season this year. Over the winter we will be building a state of the art bath house that will be done before we open again next year for our 71st consecutive season, one which we are very proud of. Well it has been a very long and exhausting day that started at 3:39 this morning. As many of you know there was a fire in our bath house at the pool this morning destroying it completely. We were on scene less than 5 minutes after the call was dispatched and the building was fully engulfed. Firefighters from Buena Vista, Central and the 140 group supressed the fire in about 20 minutes with significant clean up time to follow. The Allegheny County Fire Marshall was called... to the scene to examine the cause of the fire. Once on scene he called for Detectives from the Fire Marshall's office to do further examination for arson. There were signs of arson and video camera reviews that led to the arrest of 2 juveniles. They were transported to Schumann Center for detainment pending further investigation. The juveniles confessed to starting the fire. Moving forward it is the intent of the Buena Vista VFC in cooperation with the ACHD and Elizabeth Township Code Enforcement to get the pool open as soon as possible. Many of our volunteers spent the entire day at the pool trying to salvage as much as possible of the swimming season for our patrons. We ask that you are patient with us during this trying time and trust that we are doing everything we can to re-open the pool as soon as possible. We are hoping to re-open by mid week if not sooner. Ok, take two, please bear with me . I know that I can’t please everyone, but believe me I’m trying. I am in this for the kids . We are not here to ruin anyone’s summer. We are zero tolerance from here on out - if you send your kids with no supervision and they act inappropriately and have to be told about it more than once in a day they can not come back unless there is an adult. We do log everyone that comes in the gates, but we don’t have someone monitoring the belongings left in the lawn ( we never have, and we don’t plan to start now). If you see someone going through a bag that you know is not theirs , speak up! Together we can keep this place a great environment.

Today was opening day for the 2020 season. This is Buena Vista Pools 70th consecutive year!! That’s pretty amazing! I can not thank everyone enough for making it such a perfect day. Without the support of our community we wouldn’t be here. We are very appreciative and we’re looking forward to the BEST SUMMER EVER ! See you at the pool

Good evening all. The past few days have been very trying at the pool. I realize all the kids have a touch of cabin fever due to the COVID-19 Virus and the requirements placed on us as citizens of Pennsylvania. That being said as a member of the management team at Buena Vista VFC Pool I would like to address a few concerns that are going on currently. First and foremost as many of you are aware there was an incident today at the pool which is in no way acceptable behavior.... Some folks say we did nothing about it, they are wrong. We contacted the Elizabeth Township Police and we had a meeting with the child and his parents. During this meeting his parents and him were both informed that his privileges to swim at our pool has been revoked and he is not permitted at the pool or on our property, this includes our snack bar, pavilion etc... Moving forward we are going to have a zero tolerance policy for failure to obey the rules and disrespecting the Lifeguards. If your child fails to obey the rules it will be the right of the lifeguard to revoke their privileges to use the pool for the remainder of the day and they will not be permitted back into the pool until a parent accompanies them to the pool and speaks to the manager or head guard on duty in the absence of the Manager The policy for guests under the age of 10 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. If the child is older than 10 and in unaccompanied and is unable to demonstrate their ability to maintain discipline then the parents will be contacted and an alternate plan may be necessary. This is the 70th consecutive year that our pool has been in operation. Over the years we have faced many challenges and this year is no different. We all need to work together for the safety of our children. Again moving forward we are going to strictly enforce the zero tolerance policy and if necessary we will not hesitate to involve the Elizabeth Township Police Department, they are a great support system for us and we appreciate their efforts. Quite a few people have asked when we are going to have swim lessons at the pool. We are working on setting them up now. It was suggested to me that we have then in 5 consecutive evenings, this is one option. The other option is to have them 2 nights a week for 3 weeks. Parents interested please provide feedback so we can make the lessons fit into your schedules. There are pros and cons both ways, tell us what works for you and we will try to accommodate you realizing that these are the 2 available options so far.

For those of you who have been wondering, Buena Vista Pool will be opening June 6th! The pool is getting filled as we speak! Hope to see you all there on opening day!

Well as many of You Know we experienced a flood that caused extensive damage to our social club and swimming pool. We have the club back open and now this week we will begin the process of getting the pool ready. Anyone interested in volunteering some time there should be people at the pool most evenings this week doing general clean up. In addition to the clean up we also need to replace the pool filter motor, it has been ordered and we expect it this week some time. ... There is a good bit of work to do this year to get the pool ready. We are hoping to have it open for the last day of school this year. It will all depend on what we find this week. Several people are asking to reserve a date for pool parties. We have not responded to some of you because we do not want to commit to a date and then find out we have a problem that may delay the opening of the pool. Swim Lesson Sign-Ups Buena Vista Pool will be offering swim lessons on the following dates: July 14th, July 21st, July 28th, August 4th, and August 18th from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM. The cost for lessons will be $40 and will be offered to children 4 years and older.... Stop by the pool to fill out a sign-up sheet! Space is VERY limited so get to the pool as soon as you can!

Buena Vista Pool would like to hold swim lessons Saturday mornings from 11:00-12:00. Would anyone be interested in signing their child up before we decide to make the lessons official? We need people to express interest before confirming the lessons!
