Paul Gordon, senior planner Bucks County Planning Commission has asked us to pass along the following important message regarding Trail Construction: As part of their ongoing commitment to keeping residents and interested parties up-to-date relative to the ongoing development of the Newtown Rail Trail, the Bucks County Planning Commission has established a website/data portal which will be updated periodically as development of the trail continues to progress. The website con...tains a variety of information including: Construction schedule Pre-Construction photographs Plans and documents Copies of all prior communications regarding the project Frequently Asked Questions The website address is https://trails-bucksgis.opendata.arcgis.com//newtown-rail-. Thanks for your continued interest in the development of the trail.
We were asked specifically by Paul Gordon, Senior Planner with the Bucks County Planning Commission, to pass along the following message regarding the upcoming Trail Construction, which is scheduled to begin Monday July 6th Good afternoon residents: The day is finally here! Construction of the Newtown Rail Trail within Upper Southampton Township, between County Line Road and Bristol Road, will begin on Monday, July 6, 2020. Please bear in mind that this date may change due t...o weather and/or other circumstances. However, this is the date that the contractor has indicated that construction activities will begin. At this time, we are waiting for additional construction schedule information and will share it with you as soon as we have it. The initial step in the construction process will be the removal of the railroad ties. As a reminder, we ask that residents stay off the rail corridor during the construction process as there will be heavy equipment and trucks along the corridor during the process. Please contact Rich Brahler or Paul Gordon at the Bucks County Planning Commission (215) 345-3400 with any questions. Paul W. Construction continues on island Refuge at Byberry Road.
Ties have been completely removed between Byberry Road and County Line Road. Island Refuge preps continue at Byberry Road. Pedestrian signaling improvements also continue at Second Street Pike
The Bucks County Planning Commission has requested that we share the following information. Please keep in mind the previous safety notification is only effective for the new construction areas from Byberry Road North. ................................ After a competitive bidding process, The Bucks County Commissioners signed a resolution awarding a contract, in the amount of $2,349,580.25, to James D. Morrissey, Philadelphia, PA to construct the Newtown Rail Trail. C...onstruction will be funded via tax dollars allocated to PennDOT’s Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) specifically allocated to fund trail projects on the Circuit. A pre-construction meeting with the contractor has been scheduled for 6/22 at which we will be requesting a timeline outlining key dates relative to construction. We anticipate construction to start in July 2020. Pennoni Associates, a Philadelphia-based engineering firm, will be overseeing the construction management of the trail on a daily basis.
The Bucks County Planning Commission has asked us to pass along a message to all those interested in the trail. The Bucks County Planning Commission is requesting that everyone refrain from using the trail during the construction process. Construction will begin earnestly in July and because of the narrowness of the corridor there will be safety hazards. No trespassing signs will be posted. Please adhere to this caution for your safety and that of the workers. We will all be able to enjoy the trail in the near future!
Construction has begun in the area of Byberry Road with removal of ties and preparations for the Island Refuge. Stay well and enjoy the trail keeping in mind social distancing!
We hope everyone has been well during the quarantine and making the best of it! The good news is that all the beautiful trails in Pennsylvania we're still available for recreational use. Better news is that construction projects resumed as did the improvements at the Second Street Pike intersection. PennDOT work must be completed before Trail construction begins.
The Northampton BOS have just approved the concept plan of the trail along the SEPTA right of way 4 to 1
How far will the trail go? Will it stop at Bristol Rd. or continue to Newtown? We will let you know tonight!
Here's a great news piece covering the groundbreaking on Tuesday. By Hayden Mitman pbs39 https://www.wlvt.org//bucks-breaks-ground-on-newtown-rail/
Let the trail begin!!! The Bucks County Commissioners and the Bucks County Planning Commission are pleased to invite you to participate in a groundbreaking ceremony for the Newtown Rail Trail. The ceremony is scheduled for 1 p.m. Tuesday, October 15, outside the Historic Southampton Train Station, 613 Second Street Pike, Southampton, PA. The trail runs between this property and the Strathmann Home Center. If raining, the ceremony will be at Steam Pub across Second Street Pike.... This 2.5-mile, 12-foot-wide multi-use trail will connect Tamanend Park in Upper Southampton Township to the popular Pennypack Rail Trail in Montgomery County. Located on SEPTA’s former Newtown Branch, the trail will be part of The Circuit, an 800-mile bicycle circuit in the Delaware Valley. A cooperative effort between Bucks County, Montgomery County and Upper Southampton Township, the project will cost approximately $2.4 million. Design costs were funded by PennDOT’s Act 13 Marcellus Legacy Fund, Montgomery County and the William Penn Foundation, and construction costs will be funded through PennDOT’s Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality Program. Please consider joining Bucks County Commissioners Robert G. Loughery, Charles H. Martin and Diane M. Ellis-Marseglia on the 15th as we announce this exciting development to the public.
