WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY - NWS Pittsburgh We have issued a Winter Weather Advisory for freezing rain on New Year's Day. Here are the details: What: A Winter Weather Advis... ory has been issued for ice accumulation of a light glaze to a tenth of an inch as a result of freezing rain expected Friday. When: Friday morning to Friday evening, before transitioning to all rain. Where: All of SW Pennsylvania, Eastern Monongalia, Preston, and Tucker counties, WV Panhandle, SE Ohio. Timing: Freezing rain will move in from the south on Friday morning around 7 AM. The advisory will expire at 1 PM for most of SW PA and SE OH, but continue until 7 PM in the eastern Ridges, and the I-80 corridor. Confidence: Medium Best Case Scenario: Warm advection begins early, warms the surface temperatures to above freezing and little freezing rain is observed. Worst Case Scenario: Warm advection is delayed, and cold surfaces remain with warm air aloft resulting in more than a tenth of an inch of ice accumulation. Next Update: As Needed

Winter Weather Storm update: Below you will find an informational weather briefing issued by the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh regarding an upcoming winter weather event this afternoon & into Friday. What: Rain changing to accumulating snow this afternoon through Friday... What's Changed: The Winter Storm Watch for the ridges has been upgraded to a Winter Storm Warning. The Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect for the rest of the forecast area. When: Thursday afternoon into Friday. Where: Across the entire forecast area. Timing: Today: Rain expected ahead of a strong cold front, with rain quickly changing to snow from west to east as the late afternoon and as the evening progresses. Toight: Widespread, accumulating snow should end sometime by Friday morning. Scattered snow showers with lake enhancement on Friday. Friday: Much colder in the wake of the front with highs in the low 20s and lows in the teens expected. Scattered snow showers are expected as well. Confidence: Good Best Case Scenario: The cold front progresses very quickly, leaving only a short window for accumulating snow potential before moisture quickly diminishes. Worst Case Scenario: Increased ridging off the east coast and the parent low pivoting over the Middle Atlantic slows the exit of the front and prolongs snowfall accumulation deeper into Friday.

What: Rain changing to accumulating snow Thursday through Friday What's Changed: This serves as the initial briefing for the upcoming event... When: Thursday (Christmas Eve) through Friday (Christmas Day) Where: Across the entire forecast area Timing: Rain expected ahead of a strong, passing cold front early Thursday, with rain quickly changing to snow from west to east as the day progresses. Widespread, accumulating snow should end sometime Thursday night, with periods of snow showers with lake enhancement possible through Friday. Much colder conditions are likely in the wake of the cold front on Christmas Day, with highs in the low 20s and lows in the teens expected. Confidence: Low to medium Best Case Scenario: The cold front progresses very quickly, leaving only a short window for accumulating snow potential before moisture quickly diminishes. The NWS-Pittsburgh just released this winter storm update: Below you will find an informational weather briefing issued by the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh regarding the ongoing winter weather event. What: There are no changes to the forecast and timing at this time. This will be the final briefing for the system unless new information prompts an update to totals/timing.... The Winter Weather Advisory and Winter Storm Warning are IN EFFECT now. What's Changed: There are no changes with this briefing. When: Ongoing through 7am Thursday Where: See attached graphics for more specific information on which counties are in warnings or advisories. Timing: Snow will continue to spread northeastward through the early afternoon. Snowfall rates will intensify this afternoon, with the heaviest snow falling late this afternoon into the evening hours. Snow will taper off west to east through Thursday morning. Confidence: High in snowfall. Medium to high in snowfall amounts Best Case Scenario: Some warm air moves into southern portions of the region while snow band placement allows some locations to miss the heaviest accumulation. This would slightly reduce snowfall totals. Worst Case Scenario: Efficient snow generation combining with a slightly slower storm movement prolongs heavy accumulation period and slightly boosts totals. Additionally, banding of snow may create localized snowfall maxima higher than the average totals depicted below. Next Update: None, unless notable changes to outlook develop prompting an update.

Below you will find an informational weather briefing issued by the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh regarding an upcoming winter weather event. What: Winter storm Wednesday and Wednesday night What's Changed: ... Confidence has increased with respect to snowfall accumulation amounts, prompting the expansion of the Winter Storm Warning westward. An Advisory has also been issued to support accumulating snowfall across far western and northern portions of the forecast area. A window of freezing rain is expected across southeastern portions of the forecast area in WV Wednesday before transitioning back to snow. Heaviest snowfall accumulation potential exists late Wednesday afternoon and evening, which will impact the evening commute. When: 7am Wednesday until 7am Thursday. Where: The winter storm will impact the entire forecast area. Please see attached graphics for headline information. Timing: Snow will begin to spread northward across the region Wednesday morning and should begin accumulating during the mid morning hours. Heaviest snowfall accumulation potential exists Wednesday afternoon and evening. Confidence: High in snowfall, medium in snowfall amounts, especially across southern portions of the forecast area in WV due to potential warm air intrusion. Best Case Scenario: More warm air wraps into the storm as it quickly passes through, hampering snowfall amounts. Worst Case Scenario: Storm tracks more southerly and slows, with colder air wrapping into the storm, prompting higher amounts. Next Update: As needed
