Happy Birthday Father Bur! Cape and Sword sends best wishes today to our beloved former Prep President (and Stage Crew alum!) Father George W. Bur, S.J. '59. Below is the story we read at Father's farewell Gala in the Field House in May, 2015. Father, it reminds us again of your sweet-natured, genuine pastoral care. When in doubt we will always ask ourselves, "WWGBD?" We thank you and we love you, dear "Saint George."... Saint George and the Dragon In a small town like many other towns there was a lake, and in this lake, as with many other lakes, there lived a dragon. To appease the dragon, the people of the town used to feed it two sheep every day, and when the sheep failed, they were forced to do the unthinkable and they fed the dragon their children, chosen by lottery. It happened that the lot fell on the king's daughter, a young sweet innocent beloved by all. The king, distraught with grief, sent his daughter out to the lake to be fed to the dragon. And yet.. It happened by chance that the man called George rode past the lake. George saw the princess, trembling, and because he was sweet of disposition but strong of virtue, he vowed to stay with the youngster, giving comfort to the fearful nervous child until at last a small smile even crept onto the child’s face. Eventually the dragon reared out of the lake. George fortified himself with the Sign of the Cross, and charged on horseback with his lance, and gave the dragon a grievous wound. George then called to the child to throw him her scarf, and he put it around the dragon's neck. When he did so, the dragon was instantly cowed, and followed the young child like a meek beast on a leash. And then Saint George - peacefully - led them all back to the village, amidst the smiles and cheers of all.
