The Penbrook Leos Club members and advisors picked up litter on the northern half of the Paxtang Parkway today. They also removed rocks, asphalt and concrete from the bank at the Market St. entrance. Preparations are underway to seed the bank as a warm season grass and wildflower meadow later this month. Thanks to all!!

Held at the Intersection of Vaughn & 6th (Hoffman) Street In attendance- Mayor Papenfuse, Susquehanna Township Commissioner Frank Lynch, Bike Harrisburg Member Marilyn Chastek, HACC President Dr. John Sygielski.... For Immediate Release For more information contact: Richard Norford-Bike Harrisburg Phone: 717-460-4684 Email: [email protected] Bike to Work Week September 21 to 27, 2020 Bike to Work Day Tuesday, September 22, 2020 Collaboratively, the City of Harrisburg, Susquehanna Township and Bike Harrisburg have established a pop-up bike lane extending from Linglestown Road to Reilly Street. This is to encourage and honor the local commuting options in the Harrisburg area and to celebrate those who choose to bike or walk to and from their places of employment. Bike to Work Week will feature pop up bike lanes along 6th Street. Establishing a corridor between Linglestown Road Susquehanna Township suburbs with the Capital Complex and Downtown Harrisburg. On September 21st, the temporary lanes will be in place from Vaughn to Linglestown Road. Cones will be placed indicating the route on either side of 6th street in both directions. The roadway is already home to the Capital Area Greenbelt between Lucknow Rd and Green Street extended. It is important to note that this will allow safe biking/walking to two of the largest employers in the area. The commonwealth of PA and UPMC Pinnacle. Although many folks continue to work from home, the central business district continues to attract a steady stream of commuters to and from work. There has been a huge jump in the numbers of people taking up bike riding not just for recreation or commuting, but errand running and other routine trips as well. When an area is more inviting to bike riding and walking it is a better place to live, to work and to play. The benefit to health, the environment and the economy are limitless. So, ride with us this week!

Her story wasn’t told until a small group of people began restoring the Capital Area Greenbelt in Harrisburg in 1990 and discovered Mira’s significant role in the creation of the original parkway. Women were starting to have a larger role in conservation work, and there was more interest in general in telling their stories.
