Winter Storm UPDATE: The snowfall totals have been lowered across the entire area with the heavier snowfall expected pushed further to the northwest. Freezing r...ain is now a more prominent threat with ice totals increased across the area. Due to the threat of ice increased, no changes to the Winter Storm Warnings were made. See more

There was no change to the Winter Storm Warning and the Advisory remains in effect for Fayette County and the southeast WV Counties. More freezing rain is expected with lesser snowfall totals. Expect a break in the precipitation around noon today before the evening event arrives.

A Winter Storm Watch is in effect for most of the area (outlined in pink) from 1 AM Monday through 1 PM Tuesday. These are the updated snow and ice forecast amounts for the event. Farther north and west will have a better chance of more snow and less ice.

***Extending the Panhandle Trail*** Carnegie is currently launching an exciting project funded through a grant from Active Allegheny for a study to explore exte...nding the Panhandle Trail from Collier Township to Carnegie. The extension would cover 2.27 miles from Walker’s Mill in Collier to the Port Authority West Busway, Carnegie Station, and end at the Port Authority, Bell Avenue Station. The Winter Storm Watches over the ridges have been upgraded to Winter Storm Warnings. In general, expect the snow this evening through tonight to fall heavy at times with general accumulations around 4 to 6 inches in the lower terrain and 5 to 8 inches on the ridges.

Crew was on scene of a minor accident, checking on the occupant for injuries when this happened. This is a reminder to please SLOW DOWN and use CAUTION not only in this weather, but ALL the time. Two of our members were almost struck during this incident, please be careful.

Still fine tuning the snowfall amounts with the arrival of new model data. No major changes, just a slight shift westward of higher snow amounts. This has neces...sitated expanding the warning a bit as well. Light snow will spread northward across the region this morning and afternoon. Models are in pretty good agreement that snowfall rates will really pick up after 3 or 4pm. These higher rates should last through the evening hours and then taper off after midnight as the storm moves out to sea. Everyone stay safe out there. See more
