Homebound Services (STAR) Homebound Disabled Services Are You or a Loved One Homebound? Are you or a loved one unable to visit the library regularly due to age, illness or a disability?... If this applies to you, and you live in Cumberland County or the Shippensburg Area School District, you may be interested in our STAR homebound services. What Is STAR? STAR stands for Service to Adult Readers. STAR service provides homebound adults with free, personalized selection and delivery of regular print books, large print books, audiobooks, music CDs, DVDs, and pre-loaded Kindle eReaders and tablets. How Does STAR Work? About once a month, a trained library volunteer will bring library books or audiobooks to your home, apartment, or nursing home room. You will be able to use them for up to 6 weeks. (DVDs are available for 3 weeks.) Your volunteer will then pick up and return the materials to the library for you. How Much Does This Cost? Nothing. There is no charge for STAR service. Would you like to Volunteer? Would you like to help select and deliver library materials to older adults in the STAR Program? Call 717-240-7771 or toll-free 888-697-0371, ext. 7771 for more details. At our virtual Rally to Lift the Lockdown on March 12, we will be taking a moment of silence to honor the lives of the nursing home residents who have died this... past year. During the moment of silence we will show a remembrance collage with pictures of residents who have passed away. If you, or someone you know, has lost a loved one since the visitation lockdown began in March 2020 and would like them to be included in this special collage, please send a picture of your loved one to [email protected] by March 9th, 2021 along with their name, your name, your relationship, and anything else you'd like to include. We are also considering other ways to memorialize the thousands of residents who lost their lives during the pandemic, so please let us know if we can use their photo as part of those efforts or if you'd prefer we just use their picture during our moment of silence. Thank you so much for helping us pay tribute to and show our respect for those who have died over the course of this tragic year. For more information about the rally on March 12th, visit our website: https://theconsumervoice.org//other-is/covid-19/open-doors

Look after yourself and take some time out for self care today. You’re experiencing the most divisive and turbulent US election there has ever been. You’re livi...ng through a global pandemic. You’re worried about the future of the earth. And you’re dealing with all of this whilst having to juggle lockdowns, home schooling, remote working, increasing demands on your service, not seeing family and friends, and the worry that you or your partner might lose their jobs. You’re experiencing daily anxieties about the stability of the world. You’re living with division, toxicity and hatred. You’re worried about what happens next. And yet you still had to get up today and go out there to try and make the world a better place for people who need you. You still had to go out there and fight for equality. You still had to put on your game face. But, please try to take some time out for yourself today and please give yourself a break. Self-care isn’t selfish. You can still care about other people AND yourself at the same time. You can still keep up-to-date with the US election AND know that doom scrolling all day long is bad for you. You can still be a good public servant to the needs of others AND a good private servant to your own needs too. Now, more than ever, you need a break. Now, more than ever, you need a breather. Now, more than ever, you need to rebalance. Please look after yourself and take time out for self care today. Your effort and interest is valid, needed and wanted. But the world will still be there when you come back. The fight will still be there when you come back. The need will still be there when you come back. So please take the time out to rest, relax and recuperate today, even if all you can do is turn your phone off for half an hour. Take that time to prioritise yourself. You deserve to be helped too, even if that means having to help yourself. SWT
