Did you know that you can support your local police, fire, and EMS agencies by donating bottled water and sports drinks like Gatorade? No matter what season it ...is, your local first responders need to stay hydrated while they are working. Our need for bottled water increases during the summer months, when we are on scene for long periods, when we have fires (structure or wildland), and when we are on calls that are more physically demanding (such as search and rescue). Our department alone has used at least 4 cases of water within the past three weeks while responding to incidents. For information about making donations to one of your local agencies directly, give them a call or send them a Facebook message. Not all agencies are manned 24/7, so please confirm the best time to drop off items before you go!

Castanea Fire Company No. 1 was officially organized on October 12, 1923 to provide fire protection services for Castanea Township. Currently Castanea Fire Comp...any is home to Engine 3, Squad 3, Brush 3, Mini-Pumper 3, and Engine 3-1. Historically the company was also equipped with various boats for water rescue, an ambulance for EMS treatment and transport, and a bus for non-emergency transport of patients and personnel. Castanea Fire Company’s first due coverage area includes a wide variety of terrain in Castanea Township. The fire company responds to incidents in the township ranging from vehicle accidents on Rt. 220 to land rescues on the mountains that border the township to the south. The company also responds to mutual aid incidents in other areas of the county when additional manpower, additional equipment, or certain specialized equipment is needed. Squad 3 provides coverage as a heavy rescue for several areas of Rt. 220 and Interstate 80 both in the township and through mutual aid. The company averages between 120-130 calls per year. The Castanea Fire Company Social Hall is located on South Hanna Street, and serves as the main financial support for the fire company. Anyone over the age of 21 is eligible to join as a social member. The company does various kinds of raffles both in-house and outside of the social hall, and recently began partnering with Wayne Township Volunteer Fire Company for bingo fundraisers. In addition to the social hall, the fire company also owns the Castanea Fire Company Picnic Grounds, located near Piper Airport, which can be rented by the public for a wide range of events. You can find both Castanea Fire Company Station 3 (the fire company) and Castanea Fire Hall (the social hall) on Facebook. Both pages are monitored by the line officers, and that is the easiest way to get in touch with someone from the company or social hall. When the social hall isn’t closed due to the pandemic, you can also call after 9:00 AM and leave a message and a callback number.

The officers and firefighters of Castanea Fire Company regret to announce the passing of our former chief and life member Denny White on Monday, June 6, 2020. D...enny served the fire company and his community through many roles during his time with us including firefighter, line officer, fire chief, and director positions. After resigning and retiring from his director position, Denny continued to assist the company with various tasks at the picnic grounds and the social hall. He will be missed by all of us, and we send our deepest condolences to his family during this difficult time. Out of respect for Denny, the station sign will remain covered and the torch will burn in his memory for one week. We have also "reserved a seat" at the social hall for the week by placing turnout gear at one of the stools. Rest in peace, brother. We'll take it from here.

We will be posting more information this evening about what to expect in the club under the CDC guidelines, but here is the list of club rules that we will be following when we open tomorrow. We know that they are not ideal, and we don't like them either, but we have to follow the guidelines if we want to be open. Tonight we will be posting photos from inside the club so that everyone knows what to expect if they choose to come in. We are hoping that our patrons will be respe...ctful of the new rules, and that we don't have to keep them in place for very long! Please remember that the staff, Board of Directors, and firefighters did not write the CDC guidelines! Our job is to make sure that all of the guidelines are followed so that our patrons and staff are safe. If we don't follow the rules, then the state could suspend our liquor license and the club will be gone. No matter how you feel about the rules, please don't take it out on our staff!

We're excited to announce that we are reopening on Friday 6/5 at 9:00 AM! There will be new restrictions, rules, and procedures in place that must be followed by both staff and patrons for everyone's safety. We will be posting more information on what that will look like later this week.

We know how much some of you worry about the plant that lives in the club, so we just wanted to let everyone know that it's still alive and will be here waiting for you when you return!
