Catasauqua Fire 2020: Touring The Region

Yesterday morning, Squad 241 was called out for a kitten stuck in a vehicle. Crews used the our small inspection camera to help locate and extract the kitten. Crews were called out in the early morning hours for a CO alarm. Currently crews are on location in North Catasauqua for a large gas leak.

As 2020 wraps up, the CFD was treated to a home cooked meal by the Troxell Family. Special thank you to Clim-A-Temp Inc. for the duct work for the kitchenette and Skip Schiffer for the cabinetry adjustment.

Crews responded to the 100 block of Walnut Street for an inside odor. Crews from Squad 2 and Truck 2 located a broken heating oil pipe.

Over the weekend Station 2 responded on the upgraded assignment with Station 18. E-211 assumed the 2nd due engine assignment securing their own water supply and T-231 assumed the special services assignment for the truck company.

Squad 2 responded to the NC 15 local on the 2nd alarm box assignment. Crews arrived on scene and provided RIT.

Pending some paperwork issues, the Catasauqua Fire Department is proud to present its three newest National Proboard Qualified Firefighter 1 graduates! The last four weeks have been full of written and practical exams with today being the final skills exam. Congratulations Dillon, Devon, and Nick!

Congratulations to FF Zach Bilder who with the help of a few other members completed his training to drive and operate our three engines. Along with a few certification courses, Zach had to also complete a rigorous in house training program. Congrats Zach, we are all looking forward to you wheeling us around town.

Stations 2 & 18 responded to the 700 block of Front Street for a dryer fire at 14:37hrs. Engine 2 arrived on scene and found fire in the dryer. Crews knocked and extinguished the fire and preformed overhaul. FM2 is investigating.

Today, Santa Claus was escorted by the CFD through the Borough of Catasauqua spreading Christmas spirit and happiness!

What does the CFD do to make sure we can answer your call for service? In May of 2020 we applied for financial assistance for expenses incurred from disinfection standards directly related to COVID. In September we were awarded $25,342.00 from The State Fire Commissioner for the following. 10 Hand Sanitizer stations. 3 Temperature scanning door controls for access to the building. 4 Electrostatic Disinfectant Sprayers. 1000 Patient Gowns.... 200 gallons of disinfectant spray. 6 cases of nitrile gloves. 12 cases of hospital grade wipes. 40 Scott face piece adapters. The fire apparatus, entire station, and gear is disinfected daily to ensure our members remain available to respond to incidents. The CFD’s first call of 2021 came in at 02:21 hrs for a reported dwelling fire in Hanover Township NC. Squad 2 responded with a crew of six. In 2020, the CFD responded to 374 total runs. Have a safe and happy New Year from the CFD!

Messaging the Facebook page will not guarantee we get your message. The process that has been established is for both yours and our protection. The dates for drop off will be the ONLY times for drop off. There will be NO late entries as we must disinfect each package prior to staging for delivery.

Stations 2 & 18 were dispatched to an AFA in the 100 block of Bridge Street. Crews investigated a burning smell throughout the structure and found a malfunctioning oil burner.

Since it’s been somewhat slow we figured we would showcase some history. Proudly on display in the entrance to the Borough Administration Offices is the original East End hand drawn hose cart. A 1911 Wirt Knox hose cart manufactured in Philadelphia Pa, used by the members of East End Hose Company until it was replaced with a motorized piece. This hand drawn cart is cared for by retired and life member Robert Searfass and can be seen from Front Street in the vestibule of the building. Thank you to Borough Manager Steve Travers and Borough Council for allowing the department the space to display the cart.

Crews keeping busy once again responding to twelve calls for service this week.

After a socially distanced visit with Santa Claus this past week it has been decided that the annual Santa delivery will continue as we have in past years. The scheduled date will be Saturday December 19, 2020. This event will be in adherence to the following requests from Santa himself. Drop off dates will be published later this week. There will be two scheduled dates for package drop off at the station. Packages for delivery will be disinfected at our station and logged fo...r delivery. On the date of delivery, Santa will arrive by Catasauqua Fire Department escort. Santa will place the packages for delivery outside of the residence. Santa is requesting no contact to ensure he can complete his journey. More information to follow in the next few days with instructions and drop off times. Squad 2 responded to Whitehall Township yesterday morning for a reported elevator rescue.

Two of our JR. Firefighters spent the day career shadowing our very own Chief Hertzog at his full time job as a ARFF firefighter at the LVIA .

Bail out training , scba confidence maze and ladder placement were on the agenda at last evenings training . Crews worked together with our neighbors to the east Hanover Twp. NC.
