*** Update: Week of 3/23/2020 *** Auto Repair and Towing services are essential according to the state, however, after great deliberation Denver and I decided to give our employees the option of continuing to work or taking the lay off. Our towing operations remain the same as usual, with a few extra precautions to protect our customers and employees. Customers should arrange their own transportation when possible to avoid riding with our drivers. Actively sick individual...s should not request service at all. All of our repair personnel opted to take the lay-off. This does not mean we are closed though. Since colleges are closing for in-person classes, my schedule opened up. I will be the one handling repair customers. A couple of my repair techs agreed to be on stand-by if work becomes available, and let’s not forget that I too have the ability to turn wrench. It won’t exactly be ‘business as usual’ because that’s frankly just not possible these days, but please know that we will still be here and will do our best to accommodate your most immediate auto repair needs. If you’re stuck at home and need something to do...GET INVOLVED. Home with your kids and going stir crazy? Offer them lessons on civic responsibility and how ...individual citizens can make themselves heard. Things are happening that are out of our control, but this is an unprecedented event. Our government didn’t get a practice run on how to handle this and much of what we’re seeing take place is the result of ‘knee-jerk’ reactions. So, why not offer suggestions? Will they take all of them into consideration...likely not, but why not try to be part of a solution instead of compounding the problems?? And, set an example for young people at the same time? I have two specific scenarios that need attention: 1) Hoarders. All of the people that bought up TP, sanitizer, formula, etc....some did it in a panic and bought this stuff for their own use, BUT many of them did it out of greed. Many of these people purchased these items in order to resell them for a large profit on eBay, Craigslist, Facebook marketplace, or wherever. Problem is that some of these products are subject to PA sales tax AND none of these products are ‘yard sale’ items. Resale of new products outside of the occasional ‘ooopse’ purchase is classified as a retail sales situation. This type of business requires proper licensing. So, how many of the jack-holes emptying shelves at Walmart do you think are licensed? Ha! Likely none of them, otherwise they’d be getting their goods from distributors like all the legal retailers do. What can we do?? Well, the state has been shuffling money around from one area of budget to another to try offsetting deficits. How about they find ways of generating some of the additional revenue themselves. How about we put our officials to work at prosecuting and fining these illegal retail, money grubbing, opportunistic, jerks. The benefits could be phenomenal. 1. Money to the state, and 2. A valuable lesson learned that would hopefully curb the behavior in the future. If you come across these people selling new goods on yard sale sites, chances are they’re not registered businesses. It would take huge amounts of man hours for the state to have people hunting down these frauds, but since everyone’s home just looking for stuff to do...this could definitely kill time. C’mon, you know most of you are trolling anyways lol. Forward their information on to you local representatives. Show your kids how to contact the people we put in office, and hopefully they’ll be able to see the process at work. 2) This article on Penn DOT’s website doesn’t specify the extent of the closure, but other articles are stating that rest areas are closed to both the facilities and parking. Truck drivers need safe places to park regardless of what is going on, but especially now. They’re the ones out there trying to keep supplies readily available for retailers. HOS exemptions for certain cargo helps them move the freight more efficiently, but it doesn’t mean they never need rest. They’re still humans. Alongside interstates is NOT a safe place for them to stop. I’d like to recommend that everyone take a few minutes and call or email Harrisburg about this. There are phone numbers to ‘press’ people at the bottom of the article. Thank you for taking the time read this. It comes from the heart of a local (legally licensed) business owner, and wife of a truck driver. A crisis doesn’t have to bring the worst out in people, especially if we stand together and show them that we just won’t accept that kind of behavior. Tracey Cavins

***OPEN*** At this time, CDC Repair & Towing, LLC is still open for business. Because at least half of our operations can be deemed essential we will continue to provide service until otherwise posted. We will need to modify a few procedures, however, to keep the health and safety of both our valued customers and our treasured employees in mind. ... 1) Please do not request towing services if you are actively sick. 2) If you have requested towing services and have the means to secure your own ride, it would be helpful and appreciated if you do so. 3) In an attempt to follow the guidelines of social distancing, we will not be providing shuttle services to repair customers. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. Please advise office personnel if you are unable to secure your own transportation when scheduling your repair appointment so they know in advance how many people will be in our waiting room at any given time. We would prefer there be no customers utilizing the waiting room, but following these guidelines will at least give us a small amount of flexibility for making judgement calls in extenuating circumstances. Please reschedule your appointment if you are actively sick. Please know that at this time none of our employees are sick, and our goal is to keep it that way. Any changes will be posted as soon as they become available. Thank you, Denver and Tracey
