March is #WomensHistoryMonth, and although we’ve come a long way in the fight for equal rights, there still is a lot of work to do. Violence against women is still a significant problem, as well as a major human rights violation. We must continue to raise awareness and fight for women’s rights.

More than 20% of black women are raped in their lifetimes-- a higher share than women overall. However, when reporting crimes, they are less likely to be believed. Even when defending themselves, they aren’t always seen as a victim and can be put at risk for incarceration. There are many stories of black mothers being sentenced for ‘failing to protect’ or women that are charged with assault when escaping human traffickers.
