CFC Golf Lessons

The game if yester year, WOW, with today's equipment and the golf balls, the technology is through the roof. One football, one baseball, one basketball, one soccer ball, one softball, one hockey puck. Do you think someday just for the professional golfers, one golf ball will be tried? It's been talked about for a long time. What are your thoughts?

My goodness, in today's game where every week, any of the Tour players of today can win. To sustain the level of "staying at the top of your game" gets harder & harder. I can't even imagine how hard it is to win year to year.

Sir Nick Faldo, one of my all time golf heroes! Golf is just so awesome, we never always have our "A game" whatever level that is for each of us, but to just enjoy it and have fun is what it's all about. Sir Nick didn't have it in 2010, but sharing it with his son at St. Andrews was what it was all about. He still looks great in his Pringle sweater he wore when he won at St. Andrews, one of his 6 majors. So awesome!!! I remember last year Jack Nicklaus was asked in an intervi...ew, do you still get out and play. Jack said, I have a Tuesday group that I play with at the club. Was then asked what do you shoot. Jack said, I'm a pretty good 16. For me, that was so awesome, now 80 and the greatest is a pretty good 16. That's why golf is the GREATEST game, we can play forever. Remember, no matter what you shoot or your ability, HAVE FUN!!! ALWAYS!!! So last year when I was finally able to get back out teaching from all the Pandemic stuff, it wasn't until June 10th. But, it was unbelievable and I was so blessed of the amount of lessons and to continue what started in 2019 of teaching the GREATEST game full time at the Overlook Golf Course driving range. So when I started in 2019, I wanted to keep things simple with my golf attire. Golfers and members from my Club Professional days know that I had a tendency to be quite l...oud in my attire and would wear practically anything. Well, that's since changed, after 33 years, everyday now teaching it's white polos & khaki shorts or slacks. It's easy, simple and makes mornings when I open my closet alot easier.lol. So when I started teaching June 10th in 2020 I had mentioned to my wife/blessing a shoe change. 2019 was Mizuno sneakers because I was on staff with them. A few weeks into teaching in 2020, I got home and there was a box on the dining room table. I opened it up, was a pair of classic Chuck Taylor high tops. My wife said, George Gankas (Teaching Professional in LA) wears flip flops when he teaches (charges $800.00 an hour) (WOW!), Chris Conklin will wear Chuck Taylor's. So, now from some of my juniors and a few adult students, I would get teased about wearing the same thing everyday. It was fun and it's great for the awesome staff at Overlook to say when someone comes in looking for me, look for the guy in white & khaki and now Chuck T's. Well now, a week since Christmas and thank goodness they were all ON SALE. My wife is well aware of me being quite frugal, which I tell her don't get me anything for Christmas and I just have a habit of not buying anything for myself. I guess it's part of getting older, but hey I'm ok with that. Health, my heart is beating, have my wife & dog's, I have a roof over my head and I have Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior...heck, what else do I need. So, let's just say, it was a Chuck Taylor Christmas. HO, HO, HO again , I always tell my awesome & wonderful students that I teach FUNDAMENTALS, with the emphasis on FUN!! I don't teach an idea. When we have FUN, we make a golf swing! If we have tension, we make a hit. Now that I've been blessed by teaching this awesome game full time, the handful of mentors I have in 33 years as a Golf Professional tell me to keep learning and growing with your knowledge of the golf swing and everything that goes with it. I tell my studen...ts with everything we see online we can get paralysis through analysis, and that can get our mind all befuttled and full of thoughts where it can happen where we can't make a swing with all were thinking about. That's never good! I have a few Golf Professionals I watch online & talk to, but that's it. 4 of them to be exact, and they teach fundamentals also. I love to read and use books to help myself and my students, where I'll show them a quote or pictures when we are working on their swing. These books I've read many times and will continue to read and study them, especially during an off season. The picture shows my favorites!! I love them all!! This winter, when you're thinking about your game & your swing, work on one thing!! Have an off season golf goal!! Examples: Grip pressure Alignment One piece takeaway Shoulder turn Posture Swing plane Rotation Follow through Pick one thing and work on that, you don't always need to be holding a golf club either, keep it simple! Good afternoon everyone! Well one thing is for certain, with all the golf that has happened since the reopening from all the Pandemic stuff, I bet a lot of you hopefully got play plenty this year so far. One awesome thing about this neck of the woods, when we are still green with no snow, golfers play no matter if it's 50, 40, 35 or 25 degrees, just as long as the sun is bright and the clouds are few. I am so blessed with all the awesome and wonderful golfers that came to me ...over the last 18 months and I am so looking forward to 2021 and helping everyone that I can with learning and enjoying this GREAT game that I have loved since I was 7 years old. With the change in seasons and winter coming, I have told all those that still are coming to me for lessons, I will be teaching until it snows! I want & have to keep golf busy over the off season, so with that being said along with still studying the golf swing and to keep learning, CFC Golf Lessons will be adding REGRIPPING to my love of helping all those who need that great new feeling of a grip or grips on their golf clubs. I know some of you have gotten to play hopefully a lot and if those grips are getting smooth and shiny. It is time and get them ready for the 2021 golf season. Also, for those trips south during the off season here in Lancaster and surrounding counties. I have a catalog of grips on me at all times when I am teaching. You can drop them off at the range when you see me teaching, or I can meet you on a day when I'm not. Golf Pride, Lamkin, Winn, Super Stroke. HAPPY 2021 EVERYONE!! What are your golf goals in 2021? Whatever they are, I would love to help you get there! I want you to get better in whatever facet of your game that needs improvement & I will always be your biggest fan & supporter! Well the holiday season is right around the corner and with 2020 being a year that has been one for the ages, I believe that this holiday season will be so special for all of us to spend with the ones that are special and love & care for the most. HO, HO, HO EVERYONE!! My goodness, it's the most wonderful time of the year, and yes even this year, that we have all had to endure. I pray everyday for all of us and for God to bring us out greater in 2021 & beyond. I'm looking at the temperature and it's 34 degrees and I know there are golfers out enjoying the GREATEST game today, even though Santa is getting ready for his big night in just over a couple of weeks. ... Also, I'm so blessed because there are golfers and some of my awesome & wonderful students all ready contacting me to get on my schedule for a lesson or lessons in 2021. So I've been looking at the calendar and daylight savings time is March 14th, so I plan on starting my 2021 teaching Monday, March 15th. I will adjust if snow or cold temps keep us from that timeframe or if Octorara Orphie says an early Spring is coming instead. So I plan on keeping the same weekly schedule as 2019 & 2020 and also lessons will still be one hour in length. One thing that I say a lot to my awesome & wonderful students is, "We have to make a back swing to make a golf swing." This is a great illustration of feeling that idea of getting our back to the target in our back swing. Turning the upper body against the inside of the back leg and the power that generates when we start the downswing/body rotation. Let that front shoulder/that faces the target as you start your back swing get under your chin. #golfisthegreatestgame #keepgrowingthegame

ONE PIECE TAKEAWAY!! Right picture: club, hands, arms & shoulders move away from the ball together, the old cliche, low and slow. This is we want to do. Left picture: hands and wrists get active right away and jerk the golf club away from the ball. This what we don't want to do. ... Once again, don't let those hands control your idea of making a golf swing. Remember, let's make a swing and let the ball get in the way. In the golf swing we must have lower body rotation to compress the golf ball. The awesome Justin Thomas shows us in this picture. Just think about your front pant or short pockets. When the upper body starts the backswing, the right front pocket goes back, reverse this idea if your left handed, and when the lower body starts the downswing, the left pocket goes back and out of the way as we swing to a full finish. Chest and belt buckle facing the target and if your golf buddy is standing behind you, show him the bottom of your right shoe. That's wonderful body rotation when you get there. Remember this is FUNDAMENTALS, with the emphasis on FUN!

One thing we always have to remember about the golf swing is that body rotation and using our bigger muscles promotes an effortless feel & golf swing. Hands hold the club, that's it, the lower body rotation initiates the down swing and the arms & club follow, (right picture). Another nice thing that this illustration shows is the shallow angle of attack. Keep enjoying the greatest game!

Good evening EVERYONE! What beautiful windy Fall day we had today. One of my lessons today was with Peter. Peter has a wonderful golf swing, but today we worked on getting his cupped left wrist flatter and more parallel to the face of his golf club at the top of his golf swing. We also worked his swing more around and up to get him ready for a more shallow angle of attack into the golf ball. Peter works very hard on his swing and it was neat to see as we worked together this evening. Thank YOU Peter! Keep doing what your doing!

Good morning everyone & happy Saturday. I wanted to repost this from back in July. Well this awesome, wonderful and brilliant young man had a plan, had a vision, unlike anyone I have ever seen and had a dream, like all these wonderful Professional golfers to win & maybe someday win a major. Whether it's the PGA, LPGA or the Senior Tour, they all dream of winning a major. Well Bryson, you did it, CONGRATULATIONS, United States Open Champion!! He did it his way.

WOW!!! My goodness, how awesome is this!! Jack giving Gary alittle help/lesson earlier this week. I would have been blown away if I was listening to this in person, but just hearing them talk about the swing and at 84 and 80, I'm still blown away and in awe, they still work at it! SO AWESOME! I have 9 students over 80 years old and one student, my oldest ever in 33 years as a Golf Professional at a YOUNG 91! That's why golf is the GREATEST game, you can play forever!!

Good evening everyone!! My goodness, you would have thought 65 would lead after the first round at Winged Foot, holy cow these guys are GOOD! I always talk to my awesome & wonderful students about, "you have to make a backswing to make a golfswing." Here are a couple of pictures of Gary Woodland from the latest Golf magazine. He is swinging a wedge, look at his one piece takeaway and that SHOULDER TURN! WOW!! This is a swing with his wedge mind you!! Get those hands & clubhead away from your right ear, left ear for the left handed golfer, as you make that shoulder turn. So many use their hands, remember, I've said it before. "Let the hands hold onto the club, don't let them direct your swing!" Sir Nick is so awesome, one of my golf hero's! I always set up a alignment stick for all my awesome and wonderful students, (work station). As Sir Nick said, two rails or train tracks. Our feet, knees, hips & shoulders are always parallel to our target line. Pick your favorite color and draw an imaginary line from your target back through your golf ball. Golf is the only sport where we are not standing behind the ball and throwing or shooting it, we stand next to it. So always think as mentioned earlier, two parallel lines. Remember, don't hit the ball, make a fundamental golf swing and let the ball get in the way.
