Hear violinist Elena Urioste play Elgar, Britten, and Tate in our most recent Musical JewelBox from Sunday, October 11. She also discusses The Lark Ascending and her passion for Elgar's violin concerto.
Today is English composer Ralph Vaughan Williams's birthday (and that's pronounced "Rayf"!) Sometimes known as Britain's greatest symphonist, many of his most famous pieces are greatly inspired by English folk music and the Renaissance works of the Tudor period. The Lark Ascending (1914), a romance for solo violin and orchestra with serene pentatonic and modal melodies, has proven to be one of the most popular pieces of classical music of the 20th century.
The Broad Street Review is looking forward to our Musical JewelBox tomorrow at 4pm ET with Elena Urioste! Hear the music of Elgar, Britten, and Tate on our YouTube page.
#tbt Let’s take a trip back to 1983! Would LOVE to know what that drum set was used for. And very glad to see that the trees in Rittenhouse have been doing well these past 37 years. #orchestra #classicalmusic #chambermusic #centercityphilly #rittenhousesquare #80s #philadelphia
