PROYECTO "NUESTRO MERCADO": HONRAR A NUESTROS ANTEPASADOS "Our Market/Nuestro Mercado" es un proyecto de arte público centrado en la comunidad, creado y dirigido por la artista local Michelle Angela Ortiz/ Artist que comenzó en abril de 2019. El proyecto se centra en apoyar los vendedores inmigrantes, dueños de negocios y vecinos que trabajan y residen en el Mercado de la Calle 9. El proyecto invierte en Mercado de la Calle 9 ofreciendo estrategias comunitarias creativas para... abordar los problemas de gentrificación, racismo, y desplazamiento. El evento "Honrar a Nuestros Antepasados" será copresentadas por el Proyecto "Our Market/ Nuestro Mercado" y la Orquesta 2001. Las presentaciones van hacer el 24 y 25 de octubre y se centrarán en composiciones musicales de vida, pérdida, transiciones, iluminación y memoria. Los mensajes e imágenes proyectados en honor a los seres queridos que han fallecido y están conectados al mercado se mostrarán durante toda la actuación. Solicitamos que los miembros de la comunidad que trabajan y residen cerca del Mercado de la Calle 9 compartan imágenes de sus seres queridos y mensajes cortos para incluir en esta presentación. Estamos honrando a los seres queridos que han fallecido hace muchos años y recientemente. También tenemos espacio para los seres queridos que fallecieron debido al Covid-19. El objetivo principal de este evento es abrir un espacio de duelo colectivo, así como utilizar la música para traer luz y honor a nuestros seres queridos como una forma de elevar su espíritu. Huge thanks to the People’s Kitchen, a collaboration between 215 People's Alliance and South Philly Barbacoa for having me today to cook with Chef Kurt Evans! W...e made 215 pepper steak meals, a staple recipe for me and my family, which will be delivered to community members across the city. During times of upheaval and uncertainty, a good hot meal made by people who care deeply about the food makes a huge difference. It connects us and sustains us. The work of the People’s Kitchen recognizes this, and works to transform our food systems in the process. With so many shuttered restaurants and chefs out of work, paying people to cook meals for people in need is a model that nurtures the whole community.
