Our office has been fielding daily calls from patients with a history of allergies who are voicing concern about potential allergic reactions to the COVID-19 vaccine. Here is the good news: - The only contraindication to receiving the vaccine is a history of allergic reaction to the COVID-19 vaccine or any of its ingredients at present. ... - Patients who have had serious allergic reactions to other vaccines or injectable medications should consult with their physician or allergist prior to receiving the vaccine. - Individuals with a history of allergic reaction to food, medication, or latex CAN receive the mRNA COVID-19 vaccines. All individuals will be monitored for 15-30 minutes after administration. Hopefully, this puts minds at ease. My patients can reach out to us with individual questions or concens. Information is based on CDC guidelines as of 12/21/20 when this post was published. Here is the direct link to the CDC website: https://www.cdc.gov//vaccines/safety/allergic-reaction.html
