Anew Blood Pressure Screenings are back at the Social Centers starting in March! For the past several years Anew Home Health Agency has been doing monthly screenings at our 7 Social Centers. Unfortunately, due to COVID-19 this great service was put on hold temporarily. So naturally, ASI Social Center Participants were happy to learn blood pressure screenings are back on the schedule! The WWII era was a time all of its own. Thousands of young men were shipped overseas to fight for freedom and thousands of American women stepped up to the plate to help in the war effort by working in factories and shipyards producing war supplies. These women were known as Rosie the Riveters. This past November, the Senate passed a bill awarding the Congressional Gold Medal to these iconic ladies. This honor was due to the ongoing effort of Mae Krier (94), an original Ros...ie Riveter from Bristol Twp., Pa. This fabulous lady worked four decades to make this happen. Aging Services, Inc. Social Centers has some of their own Rosie Riveters. Alice Whitesell (95) of the Chestnut Hills Social Center in Blairsville is one such lady. As a young woman, she worked in a Punxsutawney factory making bullet casings and parachutes! If you see her, be sure to congratulate her on her Congressional Gold Medal! See more
