Friday, February 26 Devotional from Pastor John Hartman Dressed For Success Two years ago, I decided to take the plunge and buy a tuxedo for my son’s wedding. I figured with the weddings of two daughters coming down the road at some point, I might as well just buy a tuxedo instead of having to rent one several times over. I never know when I might be invited to a black tie reception. In the e-commerce world we live in today, I went right to Amazon. I found one online. It... included the jacket, pants, shirt, tie, and cummerbund, -- all for just over $100. When it arrived, I was very impressed with its quality, although it needed some minor alterations. I wore it to my son’s wedding. Unfortunately, it was 96 degrees and very humid. It was also an outdoor wedding and outdoor reception. In fact, it was the hottest day in Charlotte, North Carolina for that Memorial Day weekend in over 100 years. It was still a wonderful day of celebration with vows, rings, music, and dancing, and I still think that the tuxedo didn’t look bad on me, even though there were times when I thought I might actually spontaneously combust. Clothes have a lot to do with how we feel about ourselves. When we go shopping, we tend to look for clothes that will make us look good, -- and that will make us feel better about who we are. It’s like the line from that old 18th century hymn, Jesus thy robe of righteousness, my beauty is thy glorious dress. We make over our lives when we put on the Lord Jesus Christ. In a moving tribute to Ginger Rogers after her death, it read, Ginger Rogers showed that any girl with the right guy and the right dress can go right to the top. It helps if that guy is Fred Astaire, but our dress attire is also important. Friends, we dress for success when we are outfitted with garments that show the love of Jesus Christ. And so, please join us for worship this Sunday, February 28, at either 8:00 am or 10:30 am, with our 10:30 service being broadcast over the internet. We will also hold our Congregational Meeting, -- presenting the 2020 Annual Report, as well as elect, ordain, and install 2 new deacons. And as always, I hope you will join us! Pastor John

Take a Seat- Our Oak Church Pews This week saw the return of our pews to the sanctuary! These pews have held generations of congregants on Sunday mornings, at weddings and baptisms, during funerals, and more. During this renovation they have been kept in large storage containers in the church parking lot. Our old oak pews are beautiful pieces of furniture- with a beautiful purpose of gathering in the Lord's house. Maybe that's why it has been so meaningful to see them re...turn to the sanctuary. The return of our pews signifies the return of our people There are some interesting tidbits regarding the pews in the church archives! The oak pews were purchased in 1914 at a cost of $1231.81, plus a delivery fee of $40.00 from Dittmar Furniture Company in Williamsport, PA. The existing pew layout was not the first choice. Ideally, the seating arrangement would be circular with curved pews. That idea was discouraged by the furniture company "on account of the peculiar...floor of your building". (Presumably they are referring to the now removed platforms on the sides of the sanctuary.) The pews and pulpit furniture were transported from Williamsport to Peach Bottom by train, then from Peach Bottom to Chestnut Level by horse drawn wagon. At the same time as the new pews were installed, new furniture (including the pulpit and communion table) was purchased and the wainscoting was installed. There were other cosmetic improvements at this time as well: painting, new carpet, and new chandeliers. Sound familiar?
