After a wonderful journey, it is with heartbreaking sadness we announce the immediate closure of City Tavern Restaurant. While our chapter may have ended, there will surely be much more in store under the stewardship of the National Park Service of this 247-year-old treasure. It has been our privilege to be a part of so many special life occasions, and to have been a hallmark of the Philadelphia community through many great years, even during difficult times. Chef Staib would like to thank our friends, family, fans, guests, vendors, and staff for their stalwart support over the last 26 years of his proprietorship.Thank you!

The cold weather is here , but we have 3 floors of dining rooms inside to effectively and safely socially distance so come join us this weekend for delicious tastes of the 18th Century. Make your reservation today.

A note about this year's Thanksgiving Feast at City Tavern

With weather cooling for the Fall months and in congruence with Philadelphia guidance, City Tavern will expand our indoor capacity to 50% beginning this Friday, October 2nd. Outdoor seating will still be available. Make your reservation today!

City Tavern will be opening for limited indoor dining beginning this Thursday. A few of the mitigation initiatives that Chef Staib and City Tavern has implemented to ensure a fun but safe dining experience are: - All dining rooms are set to 25% capacity - Barriers are placed between tables and potential walking areas... - Masks Required unless seated. Servers wearing Masks & Shields - Air circulation maintained through open doors and windows - Plexi Glass has been installed at host stands and Bar/Service area - Arrows on floor, to direct traffic and encourage social distance - Thorough cleaning of tables between seatings - Scheduled daily cleanings of handles, rails, restrooms etc... - Outdoor Seating available and encouraged for all interested Our operating hours will be: Thursday 3pm - Close Friday 3pm - Close Saturday 3pm - Close Sunday 1pm - Close We hope to see you soon!

While we’d love to host everyone inside City Tavern, were making the best of a bad situation and enjoying dining the way Thomas Jefferson and Charles Thompson did. Thomas Jefferson wrote in his letters of riding to the hills to visit his friend Charles Thompson at his Harriton estate for huge outdoor meals of Oysters and Crabs (Fun Fact: Bryn Mawr, where Harriton is still located means High Hill" in Welsh)
