CHALLENGE ACCEPTED Not exactly a Carlos Gamez de Francisco painting but we had fun recreating. Thank you @cgdfrancisco for always going all in with your artwork. Nora and I may try again another time. She learned a lot about perspective, etc. and I learned I have many missing sunglasses (my dog loves to hide them). #imitatingart #carlosgamezdefrancisco #dressup #quarrantine #cityfolkgallery

E R I C F A U A N A C H T Chicken Dinner White Hen - tomato, basil, garlic... Acrylic on board 10 x 8 $300. Today's Recipe (no! it doesn't have chicken in it; silly ;) Pasta with Tomatoes, Garlic, Basil & Brie Ingredients 3/4 pound Brie (triple cream if you can get it) 4 medium ripe-as-can-be tomatoes 2 medium cloves garlic 1/2 cup loosely packed basil leaves, cleaned and dried 1/2 cup plus 2 tablespoons excellent olive oil 1 dash Kosher or sea salt and freshly ground pepper 1 pound curly pasta (I like cavatappi) Directions Put the Brie in the freezer for about 20 minutes to firm up a little. This will make it easier to cut when the time comes. Roughly chop the tomatoes and put them in a large serving bowl. Finely chop the garlic and add it to the bowl. Chiffonade or roughly chop the basil and add that to the bowl too. Pour in the olive oil and add a generous amount of salt and pepper. Gently stir everything together. Once the Brie is firm enough, cut it into 1/2-inch cubes and add these to the bowl. Gently fold to combine the cheese with the rest of the ingredients. Cover the bowl and let it sit at room temperature for at least 2, and up to 8, hours -- the longer the better. When you are ready to eat, bring a large pot of heavily salted water to a boil and cook the pasta until just al dente. Strain it and tip it into the bowl with the sauce. Fold everything together until it is well combined, the Brie has begun to melt, and the pasta is slicked with cheese and tomato goodness. Serve immediately with a big green salad. I have seen a face with a thousand countenances, and a face that was but a single countenance as if held in a mould. I have seen a face whose sheen I could look through to the ugliness beneath, and a face whose sheen I had to lift to see how beautiful it was. I have seen an old face much lined with nothing, and a smooth face in which all things were graven.... I know faces, because I look through the fabric my own eye weaves, and behold the reality beneath. - KAHLIL GIBRAN 1. Belinda Bell 2. Gay Freeborn 3. Carl White- #SOLD 4. Sarah Trafford 5. G I F T I D E A The imperfect circle and Corona. coincidentally the first image is of Randall Stoltzfus’ painting titled, Corona. It had arrived late 2019, shortly before this name would become widespread in 2020. At 48 x 60, this is a joyful painting that emits light and also has wonderful light-play from whatever external light hits it. You truly cannot stand before it and not feel it radiate wonderful energy. ... Images 2-5 were born out of this year... in Randall’s words ~ After painting circles for a decade or two, I've discovered that it's the imperfect circles that are most valuable. So I've found myself painting these imperfect circles on individual sheets of special paper lately. Something about them is really nice, especially in person. One is made with gold leaf, and is enjoying a few minutes of sunshine. C H E R Y L E L M O Like a Crown, 2020, watermedia on cradled board, 24 x 18 ... . A focus on the art of Cheryl Elmo by American Art Collector. - Cheryl Elmo says, A fellow artist once told me that I have found a way to make happy accidents my overall style. My career with watercolors has been shaped by the complexities of emotional response and the development of relationships using everyday situations. Through years of developing her unique style, Elmo continues to capture figural expression using watercolor and casein. Developing the skills to listen and observe became a window into everyday moments of varying cultures, she says. Enthusiasm to observe is basic to attain a human connection that I strive to capture within each painting. This experience is where I observe differences in an act of appreciation and one of slight hesitation. Elmo’s style and application of watercolor gives the medium a unique visual quality with a focus on everyday stories. With a balance of fluidity and structure, these elements become key to the design and communication of a subtle message in each painting. Her unique approach to watercolor has evolved over the course of her life as a painter. I am influenced by people in their momentary emotional interactions and challenged to tell an interpretation of their stories, says Elmo. Figures in my stories are anonymous yet familiar, where I observe a moment and work to develop that observation. Study of Light, watercolor, 24 x 18" She is a member of the Salmagundi Club, a signature member of the Pennsylvania and Baltimore watercolor societies, and her artwork has shown nationally and internationally. from an interview with American Art Collector @americanartcollector . #cherylelmo #americanartcollector #contemporaryimpressionism #modernimpressionism #female #watermedia #impressionism #cityfolkgallery #karenanderer

G A Y F R E E B O R N It is with great pleasure that I welcome Gay Freeborn to the Gallery. Her paintings have and will be arriving throughout the next few days. I have unpacked 4 gorgeous oils on canvas already and am very excited to share this beautiful artwork with you! Please come and see them in person and take a read here with her bio. . Born in Palo Alto CA and now a long-time resident of Maine, I paint with oils on canvas or linen.... Coming from an artistic family background and exceptional high school art program there was no lack of encouragement to create. I studied sculpture and design at Moore College of Art in Philadelphia and have continued my education through classes and painting groups and occasionally teach students individually. Returning to painting after many years of developing an interior and landscape design business, I focus my work on capturing the likeness and emotions of animals, especially the relationship between man and his canine best friend. I paint other animals as well, inspired by my deep feelings for the Maine countryside, the horses on our farm, and my 7 devoted Labrador Retrievers. I convey the motion, shape, and love for the animal with loosely applied sweeping brushstrokes or pallet knife. Using glazing mediums, wax, chalk dust, and thick over painting to sculpt subjects on the canvas, I bring them to life in an unconventional form. . F A C E S F R I D A Y Carlos Gamez de Francisco Ceci n’est pas une Pipe Watercolor, Graphite, and Ink ... 30 x 22 *about Carlos, in his words... I was born in post-revolutionary Cuba in 1987, and educated in an academic setting heavily governed by the Russian Academy. This frame of reference is evident in all of my work. To deny my experiences, perceptions and the impact of history would be disregarding my own existence. These influences are the lens through which I create and the motivation that propels me. Cuban history has guided me in a variety of ways. On the one hand, it allows me to rethink the way storytelling is part of our memories. On the other, it allows me to question the accuracy of history and its telling. This conflict absorbed me during my early years and continues to engage me as I complete my artistic education. Currently, this near-obsession with the past translates into figures, scenarios, and most importantly, the recreation of my own stories. In Cuba, I was exposed to figurative arts by the presence of the Russian Academy. This presence, as well as the censorship of contemporary art and the limited access to information, was the accepted dogma. Consequently, I understood that decontextualizing epochs and artistic symbols was the tool I could use to establish a connection between the present and the past. The resulting work provides an escape from reality and creates an illusory world. I am more fascinated in altering history than depicting it accurately. ~ Carlos . #artist #carlosgamezdefrancisco #figurativeartist #drawing #watercolor #figurativepainting #figurativeart #female #pipe #wheretheressmoke #drawing #carlosgamezdefrancisco #cityfolkgallery #karenanderer Gamez De Francisco Carlos

G I F T I D E A Remember the story yesterday about Artists having an equally gorgeous lane that is more attainable? In some cases; it’s a different body but you can see their signature style, or it’s sketches, or studies, or they moved to paper, or in some cases, they moved to small versions... and on, all to keep it original. . D a v i d S i l v a h . Partnering with the Gallery since 2016, David’s iconic, Don Quixote’s are ever present in his collections. In the curated collection arriving soon, we see his hero in the many ways that Silvah sees him. . Many conversations have taken place over David’s paintings, and a recurring question is just, who is Don Quixote? I have compiled a few wiki-notes and a quote from The Novel Book Club who partnered with Silvah and one of his Quixote paintings. ... Don Quixote is a Spanish novel written by Miguel de Cervantes. ...published in two parts, in 1605 and 1615. A founding work of Western literature and often labeled "the first modern novel. Many consider it, the best literary work ever written. So does David. Quixote, himself, is so eloquently described by The Novel Book Club (2017): The book deals with someone who creates an alternative reality for himself. He isn’t a declining old man, he’s a knight. He doesn’t ride a nag, he rides an impressive war steed. And the object of his devotion isn’t a prostitute, she’s a queen. There are a poignancy and melancholy to the story that explains why it has endured... . If you haven’t seen the works of David Silvah you are missing out. If you haven’t read the writings of Cervantes, The Ingenious Gentleman Don Quixote of La Mancha and Don Quijote de La Mancha, you are missing out. . You can always start here. Visit the website to see Quixote’s of the past and stay tuned for the new ones arriving soon! *David will not be making his yearly trip from Mexico to visit with us. R o b e r t A. N e l s o n . Bob, who was born in 1925, has long been fascinated and inspired by the 19th and early 20th century Science Fiction. A recurring theme can be seen in his Spaceman Series. One such piece was released from Nelson’s, Private Collection for this year's exhibit which is going on now. This pencil collage from 1970 is the theme’s title, Spaceman Series. The artwork is 27 x 16 and is beautifully framed with overall dimensions of 34.5 x 23.5 x 1.25.... The additional images are of Gold Venus which resides in a Private Collection in Oregon. Out of all I’ve seen from this series, the current piece reminded me of this past treasure from the days of the fabulous Beppu Wiarda Gallery. I hope you enjoy it! Face Friday I am the face behind CityFolk Gallery and Karen Anderer Fine Art. I consider this a Working Gallery and me a Working Gallerist. Every day is a hustle, and you never know what state you will find the gallery or me in. Due to the nature of the gallery, paintings often leave mid-show which means being fast on your feet to rehang. And, most days you will find a multitude of paintings, from various artists, pulled from the Safe for viewing. It’s quite an event and I ...love that each client is drawn in different directions. .... years ago, a client touched my arm on their way out and said, You really should look in the mirror one other time than when you brush your teeth in the morning. They then blessed my heart . I have never been offended by this, what you see is what you get. It’s far from perfect but I have a great time! I hope you do too. S h e i l a O’k e e f e B r a u n from the Silver Lining Series: Silver's Redemption, 2020 36x36 $3,200.... . S H E I L A O’ K E E F E B R A U N SILVER LINING" (behind every dark cloud they say there is one) and "REFINED BY SILVER" are the two phrases that kept coming to my mind at the beginning of the year. I must say, those phrases seem to be the experience many of us have had in the last months. One, it feels like we are being fine-tuned, "refined", while forced to reevaluate what we think, feel, love, and what we live for. Second, some of us have experienced the "silver lining" in this time of what could appear to be dark clouds. Some, have hope and others I urge you to contend for that silver called grace. The crushed violet lends to sweet perfume, so the saying goes. Goodness seems even "gooder" when situations are perplexing. Each painting has silver either obvious or hidden. Nevertheless, it is there.
