Congratulations to James M. (Jimmy) Vizzini, III, who has received his Professional Engineer certification for Pennsylvania. Jimmy earned his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown and is an Associate at CJL Engineering’s Johnstown Office.

RED FOR A CAUSE! Many CJL Employees participated in National Wear Red Day on February 5th to help raise awareness of heart disease. Several CJL offices held 50/50 drawings with the proceeds going to the American Heart Association. #WearRedDay

The employees of CJL’s Johnstown Office collected new toys and clothing items to donate to the Cambria County Children and Youth Service this holiday season . The office has been holding this toy drive annually since 2015 and the employees respond more generously each year.

Please join us in welcoming Maria Pondoc, our new Administrative Assistant in our Frederick, MD office! Maria joins us from Marriott International and brings with her a wealth of administrative experience. Maria is a graduate of San Sebastian College in the Philippines and holds a Bachelor's Degree in Commerce with a major in Marketing. Maria has been living in Frederick, MD for 16 years with her husband, Carlo, and her son, Chris. In her free time, she loves watching movies and baking- her new found hobby because of COVID-19. Christmas is Maria's favorite holiday and she loves caramel lattes from Starbucks. Welcome, Maria!

On Wednesday, November 18, Megan Patterson participated in an energy-related career pathways information program, hosted by Penn Highlands Community College in Johnstown, PA. The audience was compromised of high school and college students, their parents and other interested residents from Cambria, Blair and Somerset counties. Megan is an alumna of Penn Highlands and provided a brief overview of her career pathway choice, her present job and the role of PHCC in attaining her career today.

Congratulations to Jacob Marino for earning his LEED AP Building Design and Construction (BD+C) certification this past Friday! Jacob is an Electrical Associate in our Pittsburgh office, and he's been with CJL for almost three years. Jacob is also a certified LEED Green Associate and an Engineer in Training (EIT). He is on track to earn his Professional Engineer (PE) credentials. Keep up the hard work, Jacob!

Employees from CJL Engineering's LEED and Design teams visited the National Aviary last week for their socially distanced Open House. CJL's Pittsburgh office did the mechanical, electrical, lighting, plumbing and fire protection design for the aviary's new Garden Room. CJL also performed fundamental commissioning activities for the project. A few of the building's major sustainable/green features include: - A sustainably developed site, following an erosion and sedimentation ...control plan, incorporating generous, accessible vegetated outdoor space for social activities, low-impact development strategies for storm water management on site, and a high reflectance roof. - Water efficient design with low-flow plumbing fixtures, no permanent irrigation system, and sub-meters for tracking water end uses. - The building’s envelope, HVAC, plumbing, and lighting systems contribute to over 26% energy cost savings over the code minimum baseline building. - High Indoor Environmental Quality with MERV 13 filtration, ventilation and CO2 monitoring, no smoking policy, low-emitting materials, low/no mercury lamps, air quality management during construction, thermal comfort, lighting quality, daylight, and views.

Congratulations to Chris Mills, Principal of CJL Engineering's Frederick, MD office. Last week, Chris passed his ASHRAE Healthcare Facility Design Professional (HFDP) exam, earning him an impressive certification. Chris also holds PE and LEED AP BD+C credentials. Kudos to Chris on this accomplishment!

CJL Associate Principal Adam Hale participated in a virtual job shadow for the Windber Area School District (Windber, PA) earlier this morning. Several students attended who are interested in pursuing an education in Mechanical Engineering.
