A Facebook notification prompted a post, so here is a quote a very talented builder once told me. "If you caulk it to make it watertight, eventually it is going to leak."

It has been quite a process but we finally have a conference table. We like to think this is more than just a conference table, but more of a storyboard. On the top floor of the Forest Oil Building located on Main Street in Bradford, PA there was a large conference table measuring close to 5ft wide and 16ft long. The table was made by Tuna Lumber, and I have been told the table was so big it had to be set in place during construction so the building could be built around it... as there was no other way to get inside the building. Over the years the space ownership changed hands and the table was cut in half. One-half of the top and the legs were made into a smaller conference table, and the other half was in storage. We were fortunate enough to acquire the half that was in storage, albeit it was only a tabletop. A top alone does not make a conference table, so the hunt for legs began. After a few internet searches a website was found where legs could be ordered and shipped to our door, but they wouldn't have had as cool of a story as the table top. As luck would have it, we were engineering a new showroom and warehouse for The Carpenter Shop in Ulysses, PA around the same time our search for table legs began. Wanting to engage the services of those who are kind enough to retain us, we inquired as to whether or not the The Carpenter Shop would be interested in turning a few table legs. They happily agreed, and we were one step closer to a table. The last piece needed to bring everything together was the services of a master woodworker, and fortunately I was able to turn to long-time friend and master woodworker Jim McClelland. It took a little time and effort to bring it all together but what kind of story would there be if I had just gone to conferencetables.com?

Happening Now! A good ol' fashioned barn raising. Well maybe not a good ol' fashioned barn raising, but a great barn raising none the less. The Beer Barn is now under construction and will soon be serving the Bradford community in its new, permanent, location at 42 Bolivar Drive.

Some of our projects have a short time span while others span over several years. Our office began work on the Elks building in Bradford in January of 2013 and continued intermittently through 2016. The owner, John Kohler, tirelessly pursued a viable repurpose to no avail. Sadly, this project has not ended in triumphant victory, but in ultimate demise. In the Old Testament, Job said, Naked I came from my mother’s womb, and naked I will depart. Similarly, naked was the lands...cape before, and naked shall it return. These are some pictures of the razing being masterfully executed by 6V Excavation. In some sort of picker’s pride, the 11th hour clock was salvaged. Perhaps it will serve as a symbol of time spent on the project, or maybe a bit of irony. The 11th hour is a time, or symbol, of remembrance for an Elk. In a few days the clock face with the hands permanently etched at the 11th hour will be the only remembrance of the Elk’s building. Elks 11th Hour Toast. "You have heard the tolling of eleven strokes. This is to remind us that with Elks the hour of eleven has a tender significance. Wherever an Elk may roam, Whatever his lot in life may be, when this hour falls upon the dial of night the great heart of Elkdom swells and throbs. It is the golden hour of recollection, the homecoming of those who wander, the mystic roll call of those who will come no more. Living or dead, an Elk is never forgotten, never forsaken. Morning and noon may pass him by, the light of day sink heedlessly in the West, but ere the shadows of midnight shall fall, the chimes of memory will be pealing forth the friendly message -- "TO OUR ABSENT MEMBERS"
