A word or two about the nature of campaigning: When I first ran for office in 2018, I knocked on thousands of doors, talking to people about their hopes and con...cerns, and my ideas for government. That’s what I think a good challenger does - put forth their positive vision. Inspire, rather than try to motivate with anger. Similarly, back in 2018, I knew that if I ever became an incumbent, I would want to run for re-election based on who I am and what I’ve done. That’s what a good incumbent candidate should do. From experience, I knew that I did not want to be an incumbent who was always tearing down his challenger. In 2020, I wanted to show that negativity isn’t necessary if you do your job well. Now, as we round the final corner in this election cycle, I’m proud to say that we’ve run a positive campaign. We’ve celebrated community, shared values, and an affirmative vision for the future. If there’s one thing we all need in 2020, it’s more kindness and decency in our public discourse. On November 3, you and I will show that those qualities can win elections.
On Tuesday night, Clifton Heights Borough Council voted to cut off its nose to spite its face. The Council voted unanimously against the proposal to build a new middle school at Clifton Fields. No one would claim that there won't be challenges related to building a new school. It will bring traffic and we're all sad to lose the largest piece of open space in the Borough.
