Clinton County Conservation District 45 Cooperation Lane Mill Hall, PA 17751 Phone: (570)-726-3798 Ext. 3809 Email: [email protected] What: Environmental Education Webinar-Aquatic Insects When: August 14th, 2020 at 10 AM. We must have at least 6 participants in order to provide this webinar. Where: Via Zoom How: The Conservation District would like to offer an educational zoom webinar that includes an overview of what we do/offer to the citizens of the county, as well as an in-depth look at some of the aquatic insects that can be found in the county’s bountiful streams, rivers, and lakes. We will review why aquatic insects are important, and what they tell us about the stream’s water quality. After the webinar, there will be a solitary scavenger hunt that will take place, where the District gives a list of natural resource items that participants must go find outdoors. The first three participants that are able to take photos of those items and send them to the district via email will earn a gift card. The webinar and scavenger hunt/photo contest will be targeted to students in Clinton County, grades 6-12. Rules: Participants must contact the Conservation District and provide their email address on or before August 7th, 2020 in order to get signed up for the event. Information including zoom link and prizes will be dispersed via email. Participants are expected to comply with all COVID-19 practices of social distancing and wearing a mask where necessary. Participants are not permitted to access private property to obtain scavenger hunt photos unless they have permission from landowner. See more

The Farm-City Family Festival is a Conservation District event held annually in September. This year due to the pandemic, we are doing things a little differently and teaming up with the Clinton County Fair on the 4-day event. Come out and join us on Saturday for children's activities starting at 11 am. Due to the pandemic, all state mandates must be followed including hand washing, social distancing and wearing masks.... Rich Ramm Memorial Scholarship Available The Clinton County Conservation District would like to make Clinton County students aware of a scholarship that they would have access to during a normal school year. With the COVID-19 Pandemic, students will not be in school to receive these materials. The Rich Ramm Memorial Scholarship is administered each year by the Conservation District in memory of a local farmer and scholar of Agronomy, who died in 1992. Eligible applicants mus...t be a Clinton County resident and include graduating high school seniors or full time college students who have entered in or have been accepted into an accredited program in the field of agriculture. The amount of this year’s Rich Ramm Scholarship is $1,450.00 and the deadline will be May 1st. Primary consideration will be given to those students who have continued to successfully challenge themselves throughout their academic career as indicated by course choice, grades, leadership and work experience. The essay required for the application will carry high importance in determining the recipient of this scholarship. Activities, awards and recognitions listed on the reverse side of this application will also be considered. In order to apply a student must submit the application available from the Conservation District. They must also submit: 1. An essay which includes: describe why you want to study agriculture. List 3 personal goals. How committed are you? What does a degree in agriculture mean to you? What do you plan to do after graduating college? Include A list of people who have influenced you and have worked with you through your school years, in or out of school. 2. A transcript of high school grades, and a college transcript, if applicable. If graduating from high school include a letter of acceptance from the college you will be attending. 3. Include a letter of recommendation from a teacher or professor. Questions of interest regarding the scholarship can be directed to the Clinton County Conservation District by calling (570)-726-3798. It is important to note that at this time, the District is operating under a directive to ensure public safety and reduce the spread of COVID-19. This policy includes the locking of the building for all non-essential business, so please call before trying to make any physical visits.

The Clinton County Conservation District would like to make Clinton County students aware of a potential sponsorship to a summer conservation school of their choice Eligible applicants are high school students. With the COVID-19 Pandemic, students will not be in school to receive these materials. The Conservation District is offering a sponsorship for one student to attend one of several environmental schools or academies of their choice. This sponsorship will cover the cost... of attending the school, minus $50.00, which the student will be responsible for. These environmental leadership schools include the Penn State Conservation Leadership School held June 21-27 at camp Blue Diamond, PA, the PA Rivers Conservation and Fly Fishing Youth Camp held June 21-26 at Messiah College, and The Wildlife Leadership Academy held at Camp Krislund in Centre County. Students are required to contact the Clinton County Conservation District and submit a letter stating why the student feels they would benefit from attending one of the field schools. Students who provide a letter of recommendation from a teacher will be given preference. Interested students should also apply directly to the school of their choice prior to the schools application deadline. All applicants will be notified as soon as possible to ensure they still have time to attend a school if they are not chosen for the scholarship. Some of these schools may already be in the extended application period. If you are interested, please be prompt in applying.
