"Christine, I need to see you in the hallway," she said in front of my 4th grade peers, and everyone knew a private scolding was about to occur. I had answered the daily math "challenge question" incorrectly two days in a row, and my teacher said, "Did you get these wrong on purpose? You do not have to pretend to fit in.
