Today, we end our Featured Faculty series with the teacher who has the longest tenure at CMS - Dr. David Saturen has been teaching piano and composition at CMS since 1994. He holds a Doctorate of Musical Arts from Temple University as well as a Master's and a Bachelor's degree from the University of Pennsylvania. He is an accomplished teacher, composer, arranger, and performer of jazz and classical music who is always ready for a game of "name that tune." Dr. Saturen currently has an opening on Mondays at 4:30 PM for online private lessons in piano or composition. Next in our Featured Faculty series is Carolyn Gaul, who holds a Bachelor's in Violin Performance from Wheaton College Conservatory of Music in Illinois. She has a wide range of training, performance, and teaching experience in classical, folk, jazz, & Celtic genres with students of all levels. 2020 was expected to be a break-out year for CMS, with a growing number of students, group classes, outreach programs, volunteer projects, and events. CMS teacher Clifford Tracy was a contributing artist to "Keep the Funk Alive, an 8-month musical collaboration with Grammy award-winning French jazz instrumentalist and composer, Philippe Saisse. This project started at the onset of the COVID-19 quarantine and features 20+ musicians across 15+ countries. Saisse initiated the improv and then invited his social media followers to contribute creatively to a new song by uploading parts to the cloud. What began as a simple gr...oove became an effort to build a global cultural artifact, to share a love of music across social media, and to dedicate the song's positive message to health organizations and first responders. Zachary R., CMS guitar and composition student of Joseph Wagner, composed original music for this latest installment of the National Museum of Industrial History's "Innovation Station", about the history of electric lighting and the development of the PPL Corporation in Allentown.
